You know, I just... I woke up, and I looked in the mirror, and I thought, hey, what's with all the sin? I need to change. I'm... I'm dirty. I'm, I'm bad with the... sex and the envy and that, that loud music us kids listen to nowadays.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

"Urban books" (or for that matter TV shows) makes a whole lot more sense to me; there's a question of subject matter. It's the euphemismification into people that makes me @@. I always want to answer Sophia's example of "is he, you know, urban" with "Oh, no, not at all! He's a black dude from waythehellremotesuburb."

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Catfish! I haven't had that in forever. Maybe since New Orleans.

I need to go back to Louisiana for catfish. I don't eat that kind of seafood in Texas usually, and I haven't had it since my grandparents died.

There is a place up the street...I have tonight's shows DVRed...Perhaps I shall have cajun for dinner!

Punishingly Intricate

My lunch inspires dinners. I feel rather accomplished!

I did my first organized bike ride yesterday morning and it was hard (lots of huge hills) but fun. I only did about 9 miles but they were pretty kick ass ones and I could have gone farther but i needed to get back to town.

And I had my first bike spill (as an adult)! I was happy to get it over with. I need to learn to look behind me and not turn my handle bars in the direction I'm looking, evidently. Anyway, I didn't break or twist anything or hit my (be-helmeted) head. I just have lots of scrapes and lovely bruises on my legs. Which will look AWESOME with my new raspberry dress!

Always Anti-fascist!

Well, The Wire has black folks and is urban. But I would not place, say, FResh Prince in the same category as the Wire, even if, weirdly enough, they both have David Simons working on staff. And what about "Seinfeld" and "Sex and The City"? They are completely about city people doing city stuff.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

After reading everyone's breakfast posts, I am now desperately craving cornmeal mush (and, completely irrationally, lox, which nobody here has mentioned at all).

Matilda's goose egg looks quite horrid. When she and I stopped at the 7-11 in Berkeley to get a quick cup of coffee, the 7-11 lady clucked her tongue and said, "Ice it, go put ice, all better." And then when my mom picked her up she clucked her tongue and said, "Didn't you ice it right away? You have to ice it!" I'm deeply ashamed. I feel like my years of acquaintance with ita and various other bruise-prone Buffistas have taught me nothing. Bad mama, no biscuit. Or lox.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

For specific buffistas.

erika: Right now on our local NPR show, Think, they are discussing forensic science and criminal investigation. I'm pretty sure the shows are downloadable.

juliana: My friend Charlie's bar is carrying Fernet. The other night he made us a shot that translates from the Spanish as "stoned motherfucker" It's Fernet, tequila and Sambucca. Also, Mr. Jane and I toasted you if you felt a little warmer on Saturday night and didn't know why.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

The other night he made us a shot that translates from the Spanish as "stoned motherfucker" It's Fernet, tequila and Sambucca.

Oh. Dear. Gods. I think the Spanish should actually be "Hello and Goodbye, Mr. Brain Cell". Or perhaps "vile concoction".

"Didn't you ice it right away? You have to ice it!"

Pffft. It's a bruise, bruises fade. You totally deserve lox.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Eh, I very rarely ice bruises. Now, if she had soft tissue damage you weren't RICE-ing, you'd be a total failure as a human being.

Well, it's bigger than a bruise. It's a big bulgy knot on her right temple, poor muffin.
