"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

That does sound like a delicious meal.

had an amuse-bouche of heirloom tomato soup

I'm all about the amuse-bouche. When we were planning the wedding, I asked the caterer for "little tidbit like treats between meals, like the lagniappe you get in New Orleans" and she said, "Oh, amuse-bouche! We can have fun with that."

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

I'm listening to "Re: Your Brains." That's pretty fun.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

Does anyone know of nice hotels in Akron Ohio?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Tell me something nice, anything at all, about your week.

Emmett had been at his mom's for a longish stretch and when we went to get Matilda last night they were both so freaking happy to see each other. He played with her in the car all the way home (she was in her car seat) and he held her hands to walk her all the way down the block, and she was giggling and cracking up at all his usual antics.

Also, I'm almost almost done with my book and the feedback I've been getting from my beta readers has been (a) excellent and (b) really encouraging. I'm finally starting to feel like it's becoming the book I set out to write.

Oh, and I got the proofs on my Dan Hicks article which will be coming out in the music issue of Oxford American, which is a biggish deal.

I went to watch my friend's 4-year-old's first soccer practice. As a bonus I got to see her other son walk on his own for the first time.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Oh, something else nice: I taught Princess Tickybox to say "Munchkin of Darkness!" She said it to random strangers last night.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I figured out what I was doing wrong with the DVR! I had the TV on the wrong input. But I think I hate the new remote. Change is hard. I will say, as much as dealing with Time Warner can be a PITA (the automated phone system hung up on me like five times), everyone I actually get on the phone could not be nicer.
