"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Kat, that's great news. I'm so glad you got a break. I think maybe that was a break and a half since it's so close to Grace's place. Proximity counts for a lot when you're juggling such big stresses.

Back from parent teacher night. Emmett's teacher has taught 6th grade for 27 years! She's experienced. She's very nice and calm and stable and teacherly. She already seems fond of Emmett, which he is reciprocating. Bodes well.

Plus they're reading Dickens this year.

Emmett is also picking up a new sport - wrestling. Perfect for his pre-adolescent energy/aggression.

As is typical for him when facing a new experience he was iffy/doubtful/ negative and then ta da he loves it.

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

We were both at BtS night! Glad it sounds like Emmett has a good teacher. I hope I impressed my parents as much as she impressed you.

It felt strange saying that this is year 11 for me. Does that mean I'm experienced? I still feel like a newbie every Parent-Teacher Night, that's for sure.

Okay. Really tired now.

ETA: Meant to tell Burrell that I'm very sorry you and your lovely daughter are sick. The flu is just miserable.

Skipping yet again, to post that according to the Buffista Calendar, today is Sophia Brooks' birthday.

Happy birthday, Sophia! With lots of wishes for a great day and a wonderful year.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Hil, only for a little while longer, but still here.

I do hope that you're asleep while I'm typing this.

Oh, and I think you're going to fast tomorrow, right? So I hope it's going to be a good fast for you.

Fast starts tomorrow night, yeah. Or tonight, really, since it's alread 4 AM.

And, not asleep. Wide awake, and worrying about stuff.

I hope you have a good fast, too.

Oh, I'm sorry you have a rough night. I wish there were anything I could do.

[Edit: could you try to get your mind off things? Take a long hot shower? Watch a loved movie, one during which you don't mind dozing off? Read a beloved book? Drink hot chocolate-or-good-hot-drink-of-your-choice? Stuff like that?

Also, it's very in-the-season of you to think about stuff in this time of year, isn't it? You're so good and right-on-schedule with the worrying, in a way.]

My department moved to a new office a few weeks ago, and I finally got around to putting my pictures and postcards and stuff over my desk. There were a bunch of pictures of Israel in there, and it got me thinking about how much I want to go visit there again. (Spring break, maybe, if I can save up enough money.)

Did you see my edit above?

Also, visit Israel! Yay! This time, we may manage to actually spend that shabbat together!

I'm in the middle of rereading Prisoner of Azkaban, so I might try that. Though something not dealing with school might be a better bet.

Huh. The El-Al site just crashed my browser.

Yes!

I spent way too long today working on this proof that I just can't figure out. I've been staring at it for close to a month now. I think I'm making a rule that I can't look at it again for the next two weeks, because I just keep getting way too bogged down in it, and there are other more productive things I should be working on.
