Nilly, you have never hurt my feelings in any way at any time. I strive to be as good a person as you already are. I hope you have a peaceful and revelatory Yom Kippur.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Aw, Nilly, between Pirate Day, you, lori's birthday, PMM and DH's anniversary (Elephant appreciation day is around the corner), I feel like today's not going to be so bad, even if I do have to go to Houston.

I think I'll spend the ride down thinking about how I treat people and forgiving, if only in my heart, people who have treated me poorly.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

The Symposium takes place over a week, and the holiday falls on the Thursday. Since people will be flying in, it makes things a bit on the impossible side. I'm checking for synagogues in the area, or providing a good solid kosher meal before sundown on the fast.

Google-fu has failed me! Does anyone know where this quote comes from? "Let's do it again soon...and then very soon after that."

I should get something rich in Vitamin D for lunch. Seeing as how I'm not getting any sunlight.

The only way Nilly offended me was by not staying in DC longer. If you wish to rectify that by coming back for a visit, I will forgive you ;)

Swouncing

paperdol, for what it's worth, I know of observant practicing Jews, even strict ones, who attended conferences and the like during this period of holidays, including Yom Kippur, and it was just fine.

Make sure that none of them has to give any lecture or host any panel or something like that on the day of Yom Kippur (starting from the evening before, of course, as you already mentioned) and there's no reason it won't work. It may even turn out to be an interesting experience - a different synagogue than the one they're used to, for example, is always interesting, and it's just for the one single day, too.

A meal before, a meal after, a place that holds prayers in a walking distance (and it may be a place that has a "minyan" only for the holidays, not a "regular" synagogue, too. Maybe you could contact a local "Chabad" representative for more exact details? I know that my friend B, who is now in Palo Alto, found a "minyan" for Rosh Hashana in Stanford, organized by Chabad, specifically for the holidays) - it should totally work.

Good luck, Daisy Jane!

[Edit: um, this "Yom Kippur" post was not meant for you guys to make me blush so much. I know that you realize this, and it's not that I'm not happy that, um, how can I phrase it, I seemed to not have stepped on many toes this past year, but - oh, I don't even know but-what. Never mind. Just thanks.]

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hooray for Buffista psychology!

Kind of a fluff piece by psych standards, but still interesting.

Happy birthday, lori!

Happy anniversary to Ple and P.!

Emmett's been sick all week and I have to go collect him and his barking cough.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I was reading this article.

How many of you get flu shots? I never have, partly because I haven't had the flu since 1998, when I caught from a coworker I shared an office with.
