I kind of want to cry you guys. My toe still hurts after ten days, it's still swollen, it's crooked and I have no idea what to do. I don't have a GP because I changed insurance earlier this year. I kind of just want to go to the hospital but this is obviously not urgent care. I feel stupid for not knowing how medical care works.
Well, my ER doc friend would say that people come in all the time on much less urgent matters. Actually, I can ask her if she's got med advice for you.
Which toe is it? Did you stub it? Is the skin broken at all or was it just bruised?
I know when I busted one of my baby toes it hurt for a good while (probably at least 10 days) and it's still kind of crooked. I never did anything for it except put ice on it for the first few days after I hit it.
bon, go to urgent care. They'll take good care of you.
I'd dig a night in a fancy local hotel with fancy dinner.
Me too! I'd never spend the money on it myself, and I'd really love a getaway that doesn't require the logistics of an out-of-town trip.
Didn't need to be said twice.
I would never use a hotel room in town.
Kinda depends on the town. I actually have a longish list of SF hotels that look utterly gorgeous and quirky and fun that I'd love to steal off to with Hec for a seekrit weekend.
I would never use a hotel room in town. I don't see the point, unless you're escaping your children.
I think that we have a different perspective as single people. If I had a honey, I would be far more inclined to enjoy that kind of present, I think.
Well, with the airline gift certificate I might feel obligated to use it for a flight I would have taken anyway so, while it would be nice to save the money, it wouldn't be much of a treat.
I agree with that totally.
bon, you need to see a doctor. No matter how you accomplish that, you shouldn't feel stupid.
What she said. I went to a walk-in clinic at Mt Sinai a few times that was just all right, but not ER prices, either. Not that you want to go all the way up there, but I bet St. Vincent's or someone has an urgent care non-ER kind of place you can call and go right into.
Maybe a hotel gift cert for a chain? And tell him the idea is for him to use it in town, but then he has the option to use it out of town as well?
I really, really like this idea.
bon bon, emergency care works well. And the wait times are a lot less than ER, at least around here.
St. Vincent's has an 800 number you can call to get a doctor referral: [link]
I've been to urgent care once or twice, and yeah, if you don't have a doc you can get a random doctor to x-ray you and give you a prognosis. I agree with all the recs.
I'd use a hotel in town, even by myself. Sometimes I don't want to be the one with any responsibility.
