You know, it's funny. We went to war never looking to come back, but it's the real world I couldn't survive.

Procedurals 1: Anything You Say Can and Will Be Used Against You.

This thread is for procedural TV, shows where the primary idea is to figure out the case. [NAFDA]

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Someone over at TWOP figured out the "Honey Milk?" reference that the vice cop made when meeting Ryan:

Nice bit of continuity: When Esposito introduces his friend from Vice to Ryan, and the guy says "Honey Milk?" It took me awhile to realize that was a callback to earlier in the season (second episode?) when Ryan revealed that he and his wife liked to have warm milk and honey before going to bed.

ETA: Poster later corrected it to girlfriend, not wife.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I really like that actor.

That's Leon on Curb Your Enthusiasm, right?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I had to copy over Dana's manpain flowchart link because it mention's G Cullen's ludicrous multiple foster family angst. The math on that totally doesn't even work. I can't believe NCIS:LA gets a shoutout in the same flowchart that Batman does. And I guess Chris does double duty.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

The list of people that applies to is kind of scary. Gibbs comes right to mind. Anyone with a dead spouse and/or child. Patrick Jane. Jack O'Neill. Charlie Crews. House. Some of them are more charming than others, or better at masking their pain, but still. Trauma.

Oh, you just made me miss Life. Sad now.

Kinda makes you think about what you need to do to seed a procedural. But I like to think that some shows do it better than others. Gibbs is a total cheat, because Mark Harmon didn't even know he had manpain until the second season or so. I guess he thought he was just an ass.

I would kill to see his single solitary man tear, though. I bet he can't do it as prettily as Sam or Dean.

And Cullen is an inverted cheat, because I think they just set up the manpain day 1 and every week they just tell us another reason why. It's such overt fangirl manipulation.

But if he cries in front of LL Cool J, I will forgive them almost anything.

Angel doesn't get his own square, but he does get an explicit mention!

Always Anti-fascist!

Tim Bayliss gets like all the above, poor baby.(except foster care) Also, his website got censored. But, you know, that makes me appreciate Secor(and I don't mean porn this time) He did some weird things on that show, and it felt pretty real throughout. Namaste, motherfucker.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

NCIS: Finally some good Abby scenes this week. And I love how she is still managing to get her work done without electricity when the team is struggling.

I have a new game. Apparently Emily Procter hates David Caruso so they never have scenes together. Well, rarely. So the game is to spot them. Also to predict when the new black guy will give up and start phoning it in.

I thought it was weird when EP said that Cibrian would provide the show with sex appeal but maybe she was being catty about her current coworkers. Jonathan Togo has gained a lot of weight.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

That will make Orange more interesting. Somehow I find myself watching it more than I plan to - I think it's because, new or late night reruns, it always finds a hole where there are no other options. Maybe it's actually creating some sort of creative vortex that sucks all decent programming off the air.

Cibrian kept me watching Third Watch for a while - he does bring the pretty.

CSI:Orange is everywhere these days. You get to see Alana De La Garza as the passive love object of HoCaine, instead of the bright beautiful principled lawyer apple of Cutter's eye.

I admit it. Still watching NCIS:LA. I can't get over the manufactured pain. I need to know how far they go with it. And the bromance.

Still wincing at Kenzie's eye. I know it's just a birthmark--it doesn't hurt. But it makes my eyes water to look at it.
