Thank you! Talking with my boss this afternoon was the first I'd heard of the rumors, because apparently the rumors were saying the news would be coming down today. That's been delayed for the time being due to some further meetings being held, but it definitely sounds like something's going to be announced pretty soon.
The first time I was laid off was the Tuesday after Labor Day, so having this happen now is not a good sign for me. I hate reshufflings due to getting the next year's budget done.
This is a relatively slow period of the year for me, so I'm feeling particularly vulnerable right now. If they just watch me the first six months of the year when I'm swamped...
Huh. So THAT's where the WMDs went!
U.N. weapons inspectors discovered potentially hazardous chemical agents in their office near U.N. headquarters that were probably taken from Iraq’s main chemical weapons facility 11 years ago, officials said Thursday.
Okabe said one of the substances, identified Wednesday, was phosgene suspended in oil, “whose present state is unknown but which could be potentially hazardous.”
Phosgene can be used as a chemical weapon — and was used extensively in World War I — as a choking agent. Both phosgene gas and liquid can damage skin, eyes, nose, throat and lungs.
UNMOVIC spokesman Ewen Buchanan said the phosgene was in liquid form, suspended in the oil, in a soda-can-sized container. It was found in a sealed plastic bag that included “unknown liquid substances contained in metal and glass containers ranging in size from small vials to tubes the length of a pen,” she said.
That's about 2 blocks from my office...
They were in Trudy's desk all along.
That's about 2 blocks from my office...
It's in my building. On the other side of the wall I'm sitting next to right now.
D'oh! That's what I get for skimming.
Don't worry Trudy:
The FBI's Hazardous Materials Response Unit is coordinating with New York police and other agencies to remove and dispose of the material, FBI spokesman Richard Kolko said.
"There is no hazard to the people of New York from this incident," Kolko added.
eta: and Jessica
(I wonder if that spokesman is part of the crack team.)
What a comfort.
You'd think Day 1 at Quantico would be: Watch
all
the doors.
(Day 2 could be: Mulder, Scully -- turn on the damn light)
Y'know what I want? I want a grilled cheese with tomatoes and onions from home, and I want Mr. Jane to bring it to me and hang out while I eat it because I miss him.
