Happy birthday, Clara! Lovely girl.

Natter 53: We could just avoid making tortured puns
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
It's 59 in San Francisco right now. We got all the way up to 72 today. Freakin' heatwave.
I'm pretty sure we didn't make it to 72 in Belmont, though Menlo Park probably did.
Just promise me it'll be that temperature in 2 weeks, K?
The "Never Shake a Baby" video was hysterical. Even more hysterical were all of your comments! Loved Cashmere's daughter in the "They Shake Me" t-shirt!
Kathy - hope you can nip the credit scariness in the bud! I know how long it took me to straighten out my credit when I screwed it up in my young and stupid days - I bet it takes even longer when someone else screws it up for you.
Happy birthday Clara!
The discussion about what freebies they give you at the hospital (I Gave Birth, and All I Got Was This Stupid Pamphlet!) reminded me of something. When we got our marriage license the other day, they gave us a pamphlet called "Drugs and Alcohol Can Harm Your Baby." Um, huh? I wasn't applying for a birthing license! Apparently its state law, they have to give us that. I thought it was wierd. Oh, and another wierd thing happened. Neither of us have our current address on our driver's licenses (no excuse, simple laziness. We moved almost 2 years ago), so we had to take in mail and such to prove our new address. The WIERD thing was, the woman helping us at the town clerk's office KNEW we didn't live at the address on our licenses, because SHE LIVES THERE. Same apartment and everything. Wierd, huh?
I am happy to report that for the time being, I have a completely sane and reasonable amount of work to do today. It feels like a vacation! Also? I have checked and double checked (and actually triple checked) my calendar, and I am astonished to report that I have NOTHING planned this weekend!!!! For the first time in months, I have no wedding stuff I have to do, and no work stuff I have to do!!!
Ok, and one more thing. May as well jabber all in one post... I have to choose the book for my book club (they're coming to my house Tuesday) to read next month. Normally I am ecstatic to get a chance to choose the book, and I would choose one of my favorites so I can have a chance to discuss it with real live people. But I won't be at the next meeting (honeymoon!!!!) so I don't want to "waste" one of my favorites. So, suggestions? Our rules are that it can't be TOO recent (must be available in paperback, and preferably used), and it can't be TOO long (not everyone reads as fast as me, and they get cranky if its too long). Also, I always choose fiction. Looking for something light and fun that will appeal to the women in my book club, who range in age from 29 to 80. Really.

That's really creepy!
I am so fucking tired, and now wet from the rain as well. And why did I think it was smart to lug all my library books to work with me? At least it's still Summer Friday!!
Calla, maybe something by Christopher Moore? Though they err on the side of the fantastical with demons and vampires and so on, but in a magic realism way.
I just enjoyed the heck out of The Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, and that might also appeal.
Hmmm, The Nanny Diaries might also be a good book club discussion....
I just had my hair cut by my Mom's beautician in the kitchen here. I don't think I've had my hair cut at home since I was like, 4. Hecubot will be pleased to know that it's chin-length.

Happy birthday, Clara! You have the same name as my much-loved grandmother.
Where did the babies go? They're all growed up. Still cute, though.
Happy Birthday Clara!
Clara's TWO???!!?!?
She can't be two! She was just born!
Where did the baby go?!
I don't KNOW! How'd our kids get so big? Next think you know, Jess will be posting pictures of Little D's prom!
Man, those kids have gotten big! And adorable-er.
I think maybe the stroller/carseat combo may be a UAB thing. Or an Alabama thing, given the number of billboards for parenting hotlines and the like. It does give me a bit of pause. Though the state kid insurance program is ridiculous. It requires the child be uninsured for 3 months. Which is just wrong.
All in all, just weird.
Took the kids to the McWane center (a hands-on kids' activity museum- exploratorium like) which was a lot of fun. Visited my brother's lab, scared his boss with the childrens, went out to lunch with his labmate and met some of his former labmates. It was fun. If unbelievably hot. Did I mention walking 10+ blocks in 100 F? And my brother's car has no a/c? Came back and hid from the heat making aquariums and fish, excuse me, eels and pirhanas, out of legos.
I've got probably 30 minutes before the brood starts stirring, so I need to go back upstairs and prep a bottle.
