I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

we don't really know if the powers thing was what Castiel was talking about. he never out and out said that's what the problem was. my guess is that it has a hell of a lot more to do with the fact that Sam is buddybuddy with Ruby.

I think it's Castiel that's not allowed to talk to Sam yet, not the other way around. I think TPTB are trying to use Dean to get a feel for what's the what. (And maybe to absorb the blast, if they expect Sam to go nuclear. Angry-type angels don't seem above a little human shield action, to me.)

Art Crawl!!!

Oh, and I do think that part of Sam's hurt reaction is that the Angel said he had to stop when he was so sure that he was doing right.

Poor Sam.

That's a distinct possibility, given that Castiel seems averse to stating clear, direct information. (See: Castiel sending Dean back in time - (you have to stop it) - with the impression that Dean was supposed to prevent all the events that occurred, only to tell Dean later that he couldn't have changed them anyway. That Dean had misunderstood what it was he was supposed to stop. Not Mary and John and Samuel and Deanna and the YED. He was just along for the ride on all that.) So it's a possiblity that the next time Castiel appears to Dean he'll announce that nah, they're okay with Sam getting rid of demons, it's him sleeping with Ruby that the angels are against. Or him stealing Wi-Fi. Or the iPod in the Impala. Who knows.

Or, possibly, Castiel isn't entirely on the side of the righteous.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

Or, possibly, Castiel isn't entirely on the side of the righteous.

I'm going with Dean's still in Hell (or being played by Hell) and this is Hell's version of the temptation of Christ. Maybe "stop it" means stop trying to save Sam's soul or we'll put you back in the pit.

In the second episode, when all the zombie ghosts showed up because the seal of the witnesses had been broken, who's to say Dean isn't one of them? The greek word for witness is martyr and that is very much what Dean did for Sam, gave his life to keep Sam free. Even the iconography of last season's finale is of Dean apparently crucified on that web. I can very much see Dean being one of the witnesses that got released and Hell is using him to whatever extent it can to manipulate Sam.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Third parties' reactions to Castiel would seem to contradict that, though. While we only have his word that he's acting on orders from God, all the demons in the area went to Defcon One when his presence became known, and he's demonstrated complete immunity to the best warding sigils Bobby could manage and to Ruby's demon-killing knife.

That means he's powerful, it doesn't necessarily mean he's 100 per cent purely Good.

I think he's definitely powerful in a way that is completely unheard of by all these formerly-human demons that have been running the co-op in Hell. Of course, it occurs to me that Lucifer is also a nigh-invincible mythical figure that hasn't been involved in the running of Hell or directly acquainted with aforementioned demons for thousands of years or more...

I said that! And I'm still sticking with it! I don't necessarily think for sure Castiel is Lucifer, but I do NOT think he is 100% God's Cherub o' Goodness.

And Ruby totally has an agenda. SO WHAT if she used to be human, back in the Dark Ages? She's EVIIIILLLL. BaddyBad McBaderson! She has an agenda, and it's a fucking DayRunner covered in the skin of NUNS.

Ahem. As I see it.
