That must be it and that still doesn't rule out Dean as Ben's father. You know, we don't know what blood type he is.
Thinking about this stuff of Mary's friends and family all being dead: we really don't know much about Mary and John's lives before the kids. . . how they met, who their friends were -- was John close to the friends Mary had before they were married?
To me, Mary's circle of friends being killed off suggested a Giles' demon-worshipping salad days. I wonder what they did to call the attention of the YED.
Post #3209 for the east coast...

Do we know anything beyond John was in Vietnam?
All of my "knowledge" is tangled in fanon and musings and not so much the show, I suspect.
I don't think that we do. I hope that they explore that a bit this season. (And it might help to explain why Mary apologizes to Sam.)
Man, Sam really rocked this ep for me. And JP brought the Texas again. Bless that boy.
Yes, I am on rewatch.
I know! You could hear the Texas in words where you didn't hear it before - - he actually had me thinking that it was quite an achievement for him to keep the Texas while spending all that time deep in the heart of Vancouver.
Yeah, Sam definitely brought it this episode.
Which I think is kind of thematic. Part of the whole swing of focus and responsibility.
While I think it's possible that Lisa lied, I hope she didn't. Dean may be wistful about not bringing life into the world (although, dude, you got around, you might want to check a few other places just to be sure.) but it would bring more than wistfulness if he did. Knowing you're going to die, and being willing to do so is one thing, but leaving behind a kiddo (that you've already been an absentee dad to), when you have your own history, is a lot of bonus death angst.

He really did. It was very much his ep, even though Dean was in it more.
Over the past week, one of the things my irl SPN fan friend and I discussed was how Sam and Dean were going to have to be separated so that Sam could research how to unmake Dean's deal. And they did it very nicely this week.

I am with Liese. There's looking at a family, seeing what might have been and that's all well and good, but when you sold your soul and are going to hell in a year? Well, better hope that's not your kid that is going to lose his absentee father to the fiery depths of Hell.
I just rewatched and damn I like this ep a whole lot more knowing that Ben isn't Glory Dean's mini-me. I am "yay SPN" right now with my pompoms.
