I wonder if there is a correlation between choosing No Preference and being unsure of the effect of things
Not to start a whole, "I voted this way" or "I voted that way" *thing*, but for me, I haven't been a member of any other online communities and have no idea what the turnout of (possibly) creating a number of tv threads will do to this community. And I could speculate whether or not more tv threads will change my attitude toward (or rather my enjoyment of) b.org, but it all boils down to me being unsure what will happen.
No preference, for me, means that I could pretty much care less either way. Choosing unsure, for me, in this situation, just meant that although I care, I can't predict the future... especially without a similar personal situation to compare it to.
Of course, if we could predict the future, it would make decision-making a lot simpler.
I think one of the things I'm getting from the comments is that not as many folks as I thought care that b.org isn't just another board.
Well, except that a majority preferred the board as is.
Nicole, I was seeing it more as a tendency within our community to be overly analytical about not only what is best for oneself but also to try to tease out what is best for most. I think that both no preference and perhaps to a lesser extent unsure are about trying to see what the whole wants or needs.
I'm now really curious what people who are so bitter about the so-called "core" Buffistas get out of the board. I mean, if you're that angry, why are you even here?
I wondered if it was just me. I felt like some people took the open response section as an opportunity to be mean spirited.
I am not going to get worked up over the fact that one or two people are bitter. There are people like that on every internet board. Why should b.org be any different?
I think that both no preference and perhaps to a lesser extent unsure are about trying to see what the whole wants or needs.
I agree with Nicole. I put "unsure" for some questions because I couldn't predict ("Do you believe that splitting up the volume with multiple show threads dilutes or enhances the community?") or because it depended on the specific situation ("How would more television based threads affect your enjoyment of the board?"). It had nothing to do with wondering what "the whole" wants.
I wondered if it was just me.
It wasn't just you. But I found the comments, even the bitter, negative ones interesting to read.
I'm not worked up, just confused as to why, if you don't like the culture, you're passionate enough to comment on a survey about it instead of ditching.
But I found the comments, even the bitter, negative ones interesting to read.
Plus, "Monkeys are funny"!
