I don't think any viable solution has been proposed. (shrug)
Neither do I, but that's the magic (pain) of compromise.
Not everything can be discussable here in every format.

I feel badly for the people who might want to discuss such things and have nowhere to do it.
There's plenty of places to do it. Just not here.
We're already bending our carefully established rules to reopen the bookclub thread without a vote. We're doing it because we don't have enough time to propose, discuss and vote, and because we have been able to consense on it. The spoiler issue is more contentious and (I think) would really require a formal proposal. But since there's no time for that, the spoiler lovers are stuck this time.
There's plenty of places to do it. Just not here.
Understood, but technically that could be true for literally every conversation we have here.
I don't have a dog in this. I actually am avoiding spoilers for this. It just seems in a lot of our bureaucratic conversations recently that people are getting shut out.
the chance for inadvertently spoilage is way high in any thread and people care about the stuff A LOT. They've been waiting for this freakin' book for *years* and it's two days! Two lousy days! Even with white-fonting, there are reactions around white-fonts, etc., that often give the game away.
Seriously. I said to SA maybe 3 hours ago that until I have HP7 in my hands, about the only place I can go on the internet and NOT worry about being spoiled is b.org.
But if I accidentally hit "Read New," went to Spoilers, and got smacked with a spoiler for Harry Potter in a thread *for TV shows*, I'd be furious.
It's just 2 days.

What do you mean?
I'm a bit worried about spoilers in Literary. It seems unfair to Bullshit a consensus on the issue, but, yeah, I'm one of the invested people. If the answer is just that I need to stay away until I've read, I can accept that, but I feel a little fuzzy as to what is and is not okay in there.
eta: I mean this largely in the "commentary around wf gives things away" sense.
What do you mean?
There are plenty of places on the net to have all kinds of conversations. Obviously people can discuss spoilers elsewhere. That's all I meant.
I feel badly for the people who might want to discuss such things and have nowhere to do it.
If we'd said, oh, a month ago, "hey, I'll bet some crazy person is going to post photos of every page of HP and a massive kerfuffle will erupt about whether they're real or not; we can fit that into the spoilers thread, no?" I would've been all for discussing it with enough time for spoiler folk to weigh in, warning notices/jump links posted, etc. etc. etc.". At this point, I just have to say "what Jon said".
(Note: don't care one way or t'other about HP, but messing with spoiler policies on no notice is way bigger than what's covered in the previous consensus.) (And hey, nothing wrong with linking people to discussions elsewhere, as long as the links are marked as spoilery.)
I think the only options are to open BC 2 right away, and probably retitle it HP SPOILERS AHOY SERIOUSLY YO (2), or to wait until midnight whichever night and just hold it until then. I don't have a dog in this fight, so I won't weigh in on which of those, but anything else is just open big ass cans of worms.
This is like the prologue to the Potterdammerung.
