"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Is the consensus to add a paragraph at the beginning of Etiquette?

Yes, I think so.

Our wings are not tired.

FWIW, I envisioned the thread exactly as you describe if, javachik. Not a “call out” thread, but an educational thread for all of us.

That’s great. I mean, I know it’s a moot point now, but wanted you to know.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

I don't want to add work to Gud's plate, but I think the first step needs to be migrating the FAQ/Etiquette pages from the old board over to this version?

What is even happening?

I agree, Jess. I think we need to ask Gud to please prioritize adding the FAQ, Site Etiquette, and Law-Speak pages linked in the left-hand sidebar.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I would suggest archiving most of the FAQ, and repurposing some into a how-to page, or just leave it to the quick-edit page linked above the posting box.

I think Gud might have mentioned something about mods being able to upload files themselves?

What is even happening?

On the old site , the lefthand sidebar had these links (if you weren't logged in):

Buffistas Home

Buffista FAQ
Board how-to
Site etiquette
Buffista Map
About this site
E-mail Admins

If you were logged in, I think you also saw Read New, Message Center, Profile, and Bookmarks links.

Wayback machine archive from October 27, 2020: [link]

We could ask Gud if this is something people could help with. It may not be complicated to create a page and populate it with content we've already written -- just time consuming.

Also, just as housekeeping: can any of the Stompies move closed threads to the closed thread folders?

I think DX used to handle that task. The Natter 76 and the 2019 Goodbye/Good Riddance threads need to move.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

I do see what looks like a way to upload pages. I can take a stab at it and hope that I don't break anything.

What is even happening?

Beta.buffistas.me doesn't seem to be active. Is there a test/development site (or region on this site) where people can try out a thing?

I think Gud might have mentioned something about mods being able to upload files themselves?

There's probably something more recent, but I stumbled across something related in the Wayback archive from a couple of years ago. Gud said [link] :

If any admins want to edit/create static pages (FAQs, Etiquette, How-To, etc...) on the beta site, feel free to do so. I can save them off before the next database reset. It's in the 'Pages' section of the Admin Portal.

To anyone's recollection, did that ever happen?

Another housekeeping issue:

amych mentioned adding a link to GitLab in the BBaBB thread description, so it was readily available to people (to review which issues had already been reported, so we didn't duplicate; check the status known issues). Would a Stompy please add that link?

EDIT: GitLab known issues link is here and is accessible without a GitLab login: [link]

See also: move closed threads to the closed thread folders.

Per the Law-Speak document, we used to have something of a Stompy division of labor. [link]

HTML and FAQ maintenance (mainly Jon B.)
Buffista photogallery (Jon B.)
Coding, testing and webspace (ita)
Filk archive, thread archive (mainly DX)
Creating threads and editing thread titles (all)
stomp spammers without discussion (all) (See also discussion in Discipline)

Is division of labor something we can look at? Do we need to give some users some additional access to lighten the work load?

Maybe we could ask Gud for a list of tasks that [people who can't do what Gud can do] could do for him? I suspect we could knock off some of the less technical stuff.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I would happily help with that. When Peanut is in school, I have about 3 hours of time where I still need to be present for her, but where I have the focus to knock out short tasks.
