x-post from FB group..
Apparently FB has us listed in user feeds as a recommended group now. We have 3 pending users. Help!! I am hesitant to accept new users when our home board can't accept new users. Yet, some of the requests look like people who would be nice additions to the group. Ideas? Suggestions? Someone want to look at the pendings? In the past I routinely deleted requests from users that had been on FB 3 weeks and were in 897 groups, but the recent ones are legit at first glance.
A suggestion was made to add a few questions to determine fit.
It could be that we can change to 'secret' and not have people finding us.
It depends on what we're using the FB group for--emergency gathering place and bulletin board or general group. I'm in favor of something that aims for people who know a bit about us as a group before we let them in.
I'd be more comfortable changing to secret.
Hmmm. My first instinct is the FB is such a cesspool right now that inviting an unknown element seems unwise. A few questions might beat the bots, but not necessarily the trolls. Bar the door!
It seems that the Group is such an auxiliary space for this board, I don't even know why someone would want to join if they didn't know us.
I'm with sj. Secret. It seems weird to accept people when they can't register here.
New people coming through FB does not seem right to me.
For the time being I changed it to Secret with the assumption that the change will keep FB from suggesting people join.
I still think the subject of new members is one to be discussed. Some of the pending requests look like people with shared interests.
It has been quite a long time since the new user function has worked here.
I didn't realize new users couldn't sign up here.
