I caught her on a park bench, making out with a *chaos* demon! Have you ever seen a chaos demon? They're all slime and antlers.

Our wings are not tired.

For the time being I changed it to Secret with the assumption that the change will keep FB from suggesting people join.

I still think the subject of new members is one to be discussed. Some of the pending requests look like people with shared interests.

It has been quite a long time since the new user function has worked here.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I didn't realize new users couldn't sign up here.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I agree with changing the FB to secret, at least for now. It does seem backward for someone to sign up there not having checked us out here first.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I agree with going Secret for now as a least-possible-damage quick fix until we've had a chance to discuss.

I also prefer Secret for the long term, because (a) the facebook group is an auxiliary to the board and not a general-purpose Buffy discussion group, and I can easily imagine a future where a ton of people come in that way and the fb _loses_ the usefulness it currently has for "is the board down" and "hey, if you haven't checked in for a while, please check Beep Me", and (b) facebook is a motherfucking cesspool of toxicity and actual evil, perhaps even a hellmouth, so I'd rather not see it become a primary discussion place with a whole different but overlapping crew of people (however lovely they may be).

Note that the latter is totally a just my opinion thing.

brillig

If FB is just an annex of the main board, I'm good with Secret.

Completely agree with all of the above. The FB group is just a place where we sometimes post pictures and such to supplement our real board.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

I agree with Pix and pretty much everyone else, it seems.

In other news: Delurking thread?

Dana - Oct 01, 2018 5:10:05 pm PDT #6305 of 6786
I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Looks like Delurking is actually still open from last year.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, right, October! Hooray delurking!

I'm very much in favor of keeping the FB group auxiliary and "secret", so far as I understand FB's use of secret/open/closed. I'm also in favor of fixing the registration, or finding a workaround to allow for new registrations in some manner. I have no idea how to do that, of course, but if it's something that could be managed manually as a stopgap I wouldn't mind doing something to help with that.
