My connection hung up, and I composed the above post before Jessica's second post (my first paragraph is in response to her earlier one). Aims, I know you were one of the people who was upset five years ago, too. I am sorry I upset you then and now.
Erasing something doesn't mean it never happened. But I well and truly let go of this, back then. To what little extent I can control that, I am going to. You all know the story. You have access to all of his posts, here. You can research it and tell it your own way. I can't and wouldn't think of trying to stop you. Participating in the effort is not something* I can, in good conscience, do.
- Corrected nothing something to not something.
What I am now most appalled about in this whole discussion is that Cindy would delete her posts. I had never imagined she was the type of person who would do a lobotomy of OUR history because of her feelings.
eta: I still think you're a wonderful person, Cindy, but I also think that cutting such a hole in our collective memory is wrong. You're a crucial part of our community.
You know what, Ginger, I am appalled at my edits, too. When I look at the situation, I think my past posts have more potential to cause further harm, than they do to help anything. While our history is important to me, it's more important to me not to cause further harm. I'm sorry I have offended.
I really don't understand how your posts could cause further harm. I don't get that at all.
I don't expect we'll be taking this to a public kerfuffle.
But know we've gone and gutted a huge chunk of our processing about the Gus fiasco so that the whole thread is incomprehensible. It literally makes no sense now. That's a community loss, and I really don't see what that's preventing or helping.

I didn't go read it, but -- really? Cindy wasn't the only person who thought Gus was faking his death (along with his life). I remember that, along with Cindy, I was suspicious of Gus's pseudicide right off the bat, as were you. Do our posts seem like we're crazy now, without Cindy's alongside them, or do they still give some sense of how we were all trying to work things out?
I am kinda shocked this has taken up so much energy and space here....again.
I do not want anything official and I really wouldn't want any individual poster to go out and do anything that would draw attention for potential trolling, mass influx, or giant kerfuffling.
We are such a nice oasis and that shit over there should stay over there as far as I am concerned.
FAQ the shit out of it and then we can point people there, to one place with it all explained - sad that thread quoting now might not make a ton of sense for you know showing what actually happened, but shit happens.

I just did a threadsuck (which is how I saw that the posts were deleted) and, yes, without Cindy's posts, the first big chunk of that conversation is basically gibberish. (We don't look crazy, but it's obvious we're talking about information that's been removed.) I'm frankly speechless.
It's roughly 7400-8000 in Bureaucracy 3, if anyone else wants to look back.
I'm going to sleep on this for a couple of days, but I may propose that we have a time limit on editing/deleting posts. (Not 2 minutes like I've seen on some forums, more like 6 months.) I don't want to do it now while I'm still angry, I want to sit and have time to cool off.

I am msbelle in this.
dons nice cap
I haven't re-read the posts in a really long time and most likely never would again. It is an unpleasantness that I would prefer to never think about it again.
I haven't been to the other site, but would certainly understand if people that are active there would want to sound a warning bell if they see something amiss. It wouldn't sit well here if a stranger came and started talking stuff about one of our users.
That said, I really don't know enough about it all to have a valid opinion and don't want to upset myself by looking into it further.
I'm pretty stunned at the deletion, but I'm not gonna lie. I did a pre-emptive threadsuck as soon as the topic was broached. And I figure I'm not the only one.
It's just--I was there, you know? It happened. Those words went out on the internet, and I felt a bit like the external storage of my memory was threatened. I wanted the documentation of my experiences, of everyone's experiences, not to be so fragile.
I would absolutely support that idea, Jessica, but I am hesitant to ask for something that would involve coding since I have no useful skills to offer in that area.

I'm glad to know someone did. Yeah, they were Cindy's posts, but it's our collective history.
