Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Love Bad News Bears. Note to self: Must rewatch Paper Moon soon.

Breaking Away is a thing of beauty. I rewatched it a couple of years ago when EW did a best sports films list and was surprised how well it held up. And, of course, there's the Italian.

Own Bull Durham. Bull Durham = best use of Piaf in a movie.

Hmm, key to a good sports movie = use of European music?

By the way, I'm 99.9% sure that the French movie in Mad Men was in fact L'Année dernière à Marienbad.

ETA: That was to David.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

In spite of not being David, I knew you'd know that!

Paper Moon

I loved this movie as a kid. Need to add to my Netflix queue!

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

it was a romantic comedy about baseball? Really?

This is why I haven't bothered to watch it. I can be pretty much assured that it Isn't My Sort Of Movie.

Fight Club, on the other hand? I think is all sorts of fun.

I know. My account is on hold right now but I can't wait for it to start back up in September.

Except Marienbad is apparently not available. Seriously? Is there a new version coming out or something? I would have thought it was already Criterion.

No, Criterion never did it. There was a DVD, but it's long out of print. They had a new print making the rounds last year (and I missed it, CURSES!), so I'm hoping there WILL be a new version soon, Criterion or otherwise.
