A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Speed Racer made me glad I hadn't paid for my ticket. I think it could have been a good 2 hour movie but (like the 2nd and 3rd matrix movies) too many scenes cried out for an editor.
That's kind of what I've been afraid of. The Worchowskis being in serious need of an editor has been my quick and easy summary of why I don't like the Matrix sequels as well. It's disappointing that Speed Racer is more of the same, as the trailers/commercials have been visually stunning.
I can't help but feel the original Matrix was too successful for the Warchowskis' own good. I don't know whether they feel they're above needing an editor, or their previous success gives them too much free reign from their higherups, but the end result is movies fulls of things like 8 and a half minute rave/sex scenes that bore audiences to tears.

Bravo t golf clap
HA! That was great, Raq.
I think if you're really curious about Speed Racer you could go see it up until the point where he finally jumps out of the car in the way you've been hoping he would. Walk out then and you really won't have missed much.
I love the Matrix sequels. This seems to bode well for my enjoyment of Speed Racer. Excellent.
On the comic blogs I read, a lot of people seem to be loving it. I suspect it is not for me, but I'm entertained by the review & comments at ISB here. Particularly this one:
Not only does John Goodman WRESTLE A NINJA, he remarks that they don’t make ninjas like they used to, implying a long CAREER of dealing out ninja beat downs. That’s GOLD.

Yeah, as much as I'm looking forward to the movie, I mourn the passing of one of my favorite Geek Games: Casting Watchmen.
