"We now return to Dune, starring Sting."
Bah! That is, I confess, what drew me to David Lynch's fever dream in the first place. I hadn't read Dune yet, I don't think and the film really spoiled me for it for a long time.
I do, however, have an unwholesome love for the two tv miniseries...which probably means I'm a blasphemer or something.
I have two Dune audiobooks on deck...looking forward to them as well.
the staged production starring George Hearn and Angela Lansbury
I own that! On VHS. I should get the DVD, no? Sweeney and Forum are the only Sondheims I like, but I adore them to pieces. I was very sad that I couldn't go to the revival at A.C.T.
We'll def see
Sweeney Todd
but my expectations were already kind of low. We saw the recent Broadway play and enjoyed it, but went in with crazy high expectations so we were somewhat disappointed. HBC is way way too young for that part.

I don't know the show that well, but I watched a lot on YouTube before heading to a recent production. I can't imagine hating anyone as much as I hated Patti Lupone in that role.
Saw the original production twice, once with Hearn and once with Len Cariou. Hearn was scarier and Cariou more tragic, but both were great. And Lansbury was AMAZING.
DH was surprised that he liked it, since he's a fan of the book.
Jess, I'm curious, does it adhere to the way the book ended in any way? Because that would intrigue me enough to see the movie (you can post in the spoiler thread if need be).
I barely made it through the book (the writing and I were unmixy things) and didn't see the movie, but I'll point DH at your post.

Huh. GF and I both thought she was great. It was the first production of ST either of us had seen, though, so maybe we don't know the difference.
When I go see
Sweeny Todd,
I am just going to unhook my brain and watch the Pretty Gawfick Horror movie. I have no expectations for it beyond eye candy.
It will probably help that it's been about a decade since I've seen the Hearn/Lansbury production OR heard the soundtrack. Tho' I am disappointed to hear that HBC's version of Mrs. Lovett isn't zany and cheerful and batty.

I know? And the thing that grates is that in the zany batty version, she's THE PERFECT TIM BURTON CHARACTER.
