HBC is way way too young for that part.
I don't know the show that well, but I watched a lot on YouTube before heading to a recent production. I can't imagine hating anyone as much as I hated Patti Lupone in that role.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
Saw the original production twice, once with Hearn and once with Len Cariou. Hearn was scarier and Cariou more tragic, but both were great. And Lansbury was AMAZING.

DH was surprised that he liked it, since he's a fan of the book.

Huh. GF and I both thought she was great. It was the first production of ST either of us had seen, though, so maybe we don't know the difference.

When I go see Sweeny Todd, I am just going to unhook my brain and watch the Pretty Gawfick Horror movie. I have no expectations for it beyond eye candy.
It will probably help that it's been about a decade since I've seen the Hearn/Lansbury production OR heard the soundtrack. Tho' I am disappointed to hear that HBC's version of Mrs. Lovett isn't zany and cheerful and batty.

Can HBC really choose not to play "batty" at this point? I'd think it kind of like Clint Eastwood's characters always being gruff...
I have been put off P.S. I Love You by the ads with Hilary Swank chatting that guy up at a bar, asking if he's gay, and rudely huffing away without another word when he answers in the affirmative. I gather I'm supposed to sympathize with her character and want her to find Mr. Right, but I'm now rooting for Gerard Butler to have faked his death to get away from her.
