I am disappointed to hear that HBC's version of Mrs. Lovett isn't zany and cheerful and batty.
I know? And the thing that grates is that in the zany batty version, she's THE PERFECT TIM BURTON CHARACTER.
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

she's THE PERFECT TIM BURTON CHARACTER.
Wait, I thought I was the perfect Tim Burton character. What am I doing wrong? (Besides not making meat pies with questionable filling, that is.)
Can HBC really choose not to play "batty" at this point? I'd think it kind of like Clint Eastwood's characters always being gruff...
I have been put off P.S. I Love You by the ads with Hilary Swank chatting that guy up at a bar, asking if he's gay, and rudely huffing away without another word when he answers in the affirmative. I gather I'm supposed to sympathize with her character and want her to find Mr. Right, but I'm now rooting for Gerard Butler to have faked his death to get away from her.

Huh - I thought it was the best friend doing the walking away from non-potential mates. At least, it wasn't HS in the preview I saw...
Matt, that's not the main character. That's one of the fluffy sidekick friends. (Played by Phoebe, whose real name is eluding me now.)
Unless you've seen an ad that I haven't seen.
Ah, this is what I get for half-watching. Well, if it's Hilary's friend who was into the guy and stalks away, then that's funny rather than insulting.
Phoebe
Lisa Kudrow. I don't read all those entertainment mags and sites for nothing!
Wait, I thought I was the perfect Tim Burton character.
I did say I wished HBC's Mrs Lovett had been more Jilli-esque.
Matt, I think it comes off better in the longer commercials, where they show the same character giving the third degree to another man in succession - Are you single? Yes. Are you gay? No. Are you working? No. t commence stalking off in a huff
Still looks like a crap movie, though.
PS, Anthony Stewart Head has a one-line cameo in Sweeney Todd that I forgot to mention.
