Death is your art. You make it with your hands day after day. That final gasp, that look of peace. And part of you is desperate to know: What's it like? Where does it lead you? And now you see, that's the secret. Not the punch you didn't throw or the kicks you didn't land. She really wanted it. Every Slayer has a death wish. Even you.

Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Always Anti-fascist!

Remember that list of Brilliant Movies You Never Want To See Again? Add "Hotel Rwanda" Because it was, and everybody's great in it, but when it ended, I was so relieved!

Now tagless for your comfort.

I watched Super Troopers night before last.

I wonder if Albert Finney has ever taken Brian Cox aside and asked him to be more mindful the gigs he takes. I can imagine him saying:

"I have Super Trooper fans approaching me pretending to be stoned! OK, maybe they're not pretending. And I have Johnny Knoxville fans coming up to me pretending to be retarded! OK, so I KNOW they're not pretending..."

That said, it's really a funny movie. I can't believe I've not seen it before now--especially after I saw Beerfest.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

"Greetings, Starfighter!" Why don't I have either of those on dvd?

The Last Starfighter was one of the first DVDs I ever bought. I love that movie!

"Great. I'm a million miles away from home, and a gung-ho iguana tells me to relax!!"

Oh, and I own both the DVD and the CD for Victor/Victoria. Lesley-Anne Warren is a great dumb blonde, in the tradition of great dumb blondes such as Jean Hagen in Singin' in the Rain and Jean Harlow in Dinner at Eight.

"What are you...what the...WAIT! Lock the door." [pause in the action] "You two-timing son of a bitch! He's a WOMAN!!"

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

"There's nothing worse than an old queen with a head cold."

I know there were other people in those movies (Garner! Andrews! Karras! Rhys-Davies! O'Herlihy!), and yes, it was one of Warren's best-ever roles. But the Preston just calls me.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

The Last Starfighter was the first movie I ever saw in a packed theatre. My sister and I had to sit in the front row almost all the way to the left. I still get a crick in my neck thinking about it. And it was Totally Awesome!!!

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Apparently they're making a movie version of the classic British series The Persuaders. IMDB has George Clooney and Hugh Grant rumoured to be playing Danny Wilde and Lord Brett Sinclair.

I'm thinking Matt Damon and Christian Bale as Danny and Lord Brett.

I heard he wasn't happy with the script.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I love having a verbose obsessive on my flist.
