Keanu does have extensive Shakespeare training. I liked him in Point Break, and we know all about my unreasonable and unholy love for Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (in which he's playing himself, more or less).

Buffista Movies 6: lies and videotape
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I'll take people's word for it that Keanu once had the ability to speak. I'll make a point to see River's Edge and Johny Mneumonic at some point.
From the NYT review:
Most of the performances are as natural and credible as the ones in ''Tex,'' with Mr. Roebuck a sad and helpless figure as Samson, and Keanu Reeves affecting and sympathetic as Tim's older brother
Perhaps the last time those words were said about Mr. Reeves, who brought a charming cluelessness to the excellent adventures of Bill and Ted, but unfortunately got stuck there.
(That said, I have mad, mad love for Keanu Reeves, and hope that one day, he gets that groove back.)

So very much this.
Greg Berlanti is co-writing and directing a Green Lantern movie.
GF and I watched Oldboy this weekend. What a twisted crazy movie! Great one.
My sister LOVES that movie. A bunch of my male friends swear it has a happy ending. They're misusing words. One of them has a daughter and I asked him to think of it in those terms--suddenly he was quite defensive, although he wouldn't grant me my point.
Dude, there really was no way to have a happy ending of any kind. I think he should have told his daughter the truth. His only other options were to continue with the wrongness of that relationship, or cut ties with her altogether, neither of which is great.

Didn't I hear talk (probably here) that the character from the first series of Slings and Arrows was loosely based on Keanu?
Oh, damn. I didn't know this:
In December 1999, Reeves' girlfriend, Jennifer Syme, gave birth to a stillborn daughter who was named Ava Archer Syme-Reeves. In April 2001, Syme was killed in a car accident. She was buried next to their daughter in the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. Reeves was a pallbearer at Syme's funeral.
This is cool, though:
[Reeves] took a significant amount of the profits from his Matrix series and treated the 12 stuntmen who worked on the films to Harley Davidson motorcycles, among other things.
My favorite Shakespeare prof saw a few plays in TO with Mr Reeves, and said he was a delight to watch plays with, because he always had new and interesting insights.

Yep - Mark McKinney has admitted that Jack is based on Keanu's time in Winnipeg playing Hamlet.
