Do you have the physical cable coming into your house, Zen? Sometimes you can get random channels on it even if you aren't supposed to have service. Might be worth checking, anyway.

You have a dish? I'm not sure Tivo works with Dish. You might have to go to the Tivo website to suss this out. Do you have a Best Buy in your area? You might see what kind of DVRs they have.

Oh, is it just the DVR that's a problem, you still get the content? You could get a TiVo today and set it up, but I don't know if it's compatible with the Dish signal.
