I watched Saving Grace, although I'm not sure for how much longer. I was underwhelmed again by the MOTW, and even though the Grace character is certainly unique and very well-acted, I'm not sure I find her all that interesting. (Big Spoiler) I think we were supposed to be shocked by her having sex with Henry at the end, while I just found it to be predictable.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I don't think we were necessarily supposed to be shocked, but I think it was being a little heavy-handed in trying to show Grace as having some form of compassion. Sure, most people probably woulnd't go straight to sex, but it's the only way Grace knows to handle emotional upheaval--drink a lot of booze and go have sex. I got enough of the "Grace can have warm, fuzzy feelings" from her talking to Henry and then phoning him to check up on him. Of course, it doesn't hurt that it helps her push her father's affair with her aunt to the back of her mind, so it's definitely got a selfish motivation. It just adds another level of complexity to the character. I must admit, it seems like all they do is develop character without a whole lot of payoff. I'm just bummed that there's only four more episodes to this season, I'm not sure they can resolve anything and that feels like a bit of a cheat. I don't want to have to wait for the second season to see Grace admit she's hit rock bottom, especially when I don't even know if there's going to be a second season, yet. I feel there's a whole lot of avenues to explore that can't be wrapped up in just four episodes. I wanna know about the house with the purple door, for one!

Not javachik

Sail, no kidding, with the bondage! then later - holy cow, that's one amazing body Holly Hunter has. She's the definition of lithe & petite I tell you what. I had the same take on it as you, that sex & booze is her default for all relations with men.

I'm squicked by the thought of how unclean her house must be, though. She's throwing a beverage across the room this and pouring something on someone/the carpet that. ::shudder:: I wouldn't want to walk around with bare feet, let alone lie down on the carpet, clothed or naked. I guess we're supposed to assume house elves clean the minute she leaves the house instead of it attracting ants and roaches and who knows what like whoa.

Hee. I'll go with the house elves. In cowboy boots and stetsons. It wouldn't surprise me if she had cleaners come in once a week. She just is not the type to do the cleaning herself.

I thought it was interesting that while her brother had a gazillion pictures and articles about the Murrow building posted in his basement, she had as many mirrors around her house. I'd never noticed that before, so I'm wondering if they just shot it to look like she did. I'll have to keep an eye out next week to see if she really does have all of what it looked like.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

Anyone watch The Closer this week? Brenda's parents continue to be entertaining, but I have no idea how Fritz puts up with everything. At least some of her secrets came out, which will be interesting to see play out with the team.

It'll be interesting to see if Pope starts treating her differently.

Art Crawl!!!

Finally watched Saving Grace: you know until that ONE SCENE I had never noticed all the mirrors. And it was creepy.

Who plays Henry? He seems so familiar.

And Saving Grace has been picked up so there will be a second season.

The Closer: I love how Fritz and Brenda's dad have, like identical expressions when they react to some of the Brenda and Brenda's mom craxiness.

Given the previews for next week, it seems he would have no room to talk.

I bet there's an unshot scene where her dad takes Fritz aside and tries to explain the women to him.

Thrive to spite them

I don't think we were supposed to be shocked that Grace slept with that guy, that's how she deals with things emotionally.

One thing that struck me on the way to work is that Grace is a lot like Tommy on Rescue Me, which I haven't watched since the first season so bear with me. Tommy is a firefighter with a cop and a preist for brothers. Grace is a cop with a firefighter and a priest for brothers (and presumably more didn't she say she had 4 brothers and 1 living sister?), both drink too much, both are still dealing with the emotional aftermath of terrorist attacks. Both lost relatives in the attacks. Both see visions -- well Tommy sees Dead People and Grace sees an Angel.

It doesn't track exactly but she's a lot closer to being like Tommy than she is like any female character on tv.
