Right, I think it ties back to his first master pitch about the slide carousel. Also, Ken just referenced the carousel in the previous ep.
Interesting how they tie in 2001: A Space Odyssey into with the ominous dominating computer and staring up into the sky and imagining the moon landing.
Plus, the meaning of the Mets banner changes in meaning during the ep from grim reminder of Lane to something like a hint that Don will make a triumphant turn around as the '69 Miracle Mets did.

Yeah, that was the callback. That pitch was Don's calling card for years and in that pitch the carousel symbolizes family and love and childhood and wonder, so calling back to it with lyrics about how actually a carousel symbolizes futility because you never get any close to the thing you're chasing...brilliant.
