That's perfectly reasonable. I just have a totally unreasonable but strong visceral dislike of Low Winter Sun based on the previews, so I am grateful not to have a competing reason to watch it. Lennie James is tempting, but not compelling, and Mark Strong - looking at IMDB I have not seen a lot of his work.
It's nice when all the little oarsmen in my brain pull together instead of brawling.
OMG, Lennie James too! When everyone is all Paterson Joseph is the black Doctor, I'm no offence, but Lennie James! (In my head, quietly, and somewhat after the actual announcement, but before I realised Ayoade is also perfect). Lennie's a chameleon.
Mark Strong is a solid badass, and I like too see both of them in complicated places. Thrills me. So hopefully the show isn't entirely depressing, and I won't watch it the same day as BB.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Montgomery from Castle, basically playing Montgomery.
When everyone is all Paterson Joseph is the black Doctor, I'm no offence, but Lennie James!
Man, Lennie James is the awesomest. He was by far the best thing about Jericho.
I have mad crazy lust for Mark Strong. I can't explain it, it just is,
All the negative reviews I've heard and read about Low Winter Sun point out that it's brought to us from someone responsible for Cold Case and Criminal Minds, but I like those! So maybe it's more about expectations than the actual product? (I still don't plan to watch it...)
IMO, the show is fucking boring. The show IMO, is trying to be like "The Shield" set in Detroit, but they made a bit of an error where a significant event in "The Shield" happened at the end of the pilot episode, this event happened in the first 5 minutes of the episode.
It is difficult to find your bearings when the protagonist does something really terrible early on and the viewer has no context for why this had to be done. What was the motivation that such a drastic step needed to be taken?
The acting is pretty good, but the pacing is atrocious.
I can't stop thinking about how amazing Dean Norris was in that last Breaking Bad scene.
He was pretty incredible the whole episode. It's interesting to think about the fact that in the first season, I thought Hank was just a racist jerk I didn't like very much, and now he's one of my favorite characters. His character arc is often overlooked in the shadow of Walt's and Jesse's. Now that I think about it, he kind of reminds me of Carver from
The Wire
in that sense.
Dean Norris actually had a pretty good scene in
Under the Dome,
too (which, amusingly enough, had a similar ending, though not nearly as powerful). Good week for him!
