"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

That was the most boring episode of Mad Men. And there was almost no Joan.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

There was not much Joan, it's true, but I really liked it. Very dreamlike.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

That was the most boring episode of Mad Men.

Oh, good, so it wasn't just me.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I was not bored by it, I liked the episode, but I thought they hit us over the head a bit too much. I could have stood for less "this is the theme!" indicators throughout.

For example, did they really have to kill the shoe shine man? Did we have to see Don asking the man what he saw when he died?

There was some interesting bits, but not nearly enough for a two hour premiere. The part where Megan talks about her character pushing someone down the stairs combined with her fan interaction earlier in the episode, made me think about stories I read from soap actresses of the time and how they would be yelled and screamed at on the streets of New York when their characters would do something evil. I wonder if that is going to be followed through on.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I don't know if "of the time" is required here. Ask the guy playing Joffrey what complete strangers are like.

It reminded me of the Sopranos episode where Tony was Tim Finity. I like that sort of thing.

True. But would it have been a new phenomenon of the time, with more and more people having TVs and soaps becoming a little edgier? I think soap actors my have experienced this phenomenon more often with it being on 5 days a week.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

As to this being a boring episode - doesn't Madmen always start out slow?

Yes, but I always complain about it anyway.
