Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
And WETA now has through episode 6! Thankfully, they were mostly things (gluten free pita? squid ink vol au vent?) that did not make me desperate to break my diet and start baking (though the frangipane...)
So was it a blast? Did you enjoy meeting the people and the whole experience?
Whoops! Missed this.
It *was* a blast! The other contestants were very kind and supportive (not competitive at all) as were the crew. You could tell that everyone was working really hard to present you in the best light to the judges and audience. Of course, once you get knocked off, they edit your performance to make it look way worse than it was, but that didn't surprise me. What did surprise me was that I made it as far as I did!
What a great experience. I can't stand to watch such shows, but being involved is another matter altogether. I'm glad the people were cool and supportive. I can see how the theremin didn't translate well in that environment because there wasn't the time allotted to explain the process to people not previously exposed. The Holt household was delighted to see you showing off your skillz. We would not have pulled out the hook on you!
Such a cool experience, Jon! A bunch of my friends were talking about the show and were tickled that I knew you. They said you were cute.
Aww, shucks.
Great British Baking Show: I am SO impressed with the skills the bakers bring to the show! It's like the Olympic gymnastics - not only do they have to do something difficult, it has to look pretty!
I was happy with the very first person to be sent home - he got on my nerves - but now the field has been whittled down to five (at least the series I'm watching), each person sent home is going to hurt. I like all of them.
Toddson, if you want to watch online, oddly WETA had many more episodes up than PBS.org did. I haven't checked in a few days but last I saw WETA had all but the finale up, so that may be up now too. Though then I'll be sad because I won't have more :(
It's pretty good still on re-watch, as I learned last night.
I'm happy to take it a week at a time. They're down to the top five at this point in my viewing, so I'll let it play out. I just wish I had their skills - I'm competent, but I'm always thrilled when something comes out looking good.
