Flea, my dvr no longer can pick up my cable signal, so I can't record, and these sites have been good so far: [link] and [link]
Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
I second Ms. J's Blog and Buddy TV as good spots to find videos. Rickey.org is also pretty good.
Mom thought Cat looked adorable and that it wasn't that bad compared to some of the past looks.
I could get with that so long as we acknowledge that's a really low bar given some of Cat's cracked out past looks. And honestly, monkey crack influenced wardrobe choices are part of the fabric of SYTYCD. My musings would be much shorter if I couldn't complain about them.
A really really low bar.
One point in Cat Deely's favor - she doesn't indulge in hair-flinging. I'm just saying ...
That reminds me I had a question -
Why do the girls have their hair loose and flinging all over the place in rehearsals? I would think they'd want it up away from the face.
Yeah, most studios have a rule about having hair pulled back in class. In addition to it flopping in your face all the time, it makes it hard for the teacher to really give corrections if he/she can't see the position of the head/neck/shoulders, alignment, all that good stuff. I'm thinking maybe they get asked to leave their hair down because it looks better on camera? I don't know.
OK, finally getting a chance to watch SYTYCD! I can't wait to see what Kat had to say...
Fikshun/Mariah: I didn't think much of her. Meh. And not sure how much I liked the choreo (though, yay it wasn't NappyTab?). And I was watching the reveal going "Why don't we get to hear ANYTHING about this other dude?!", glad it wasn' t just hating on him, if he had to withdraw (so...who takes his place?!?!)
(OMG MIA WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR HAIR?)
Mackenzie: I like what I saw of her in the auditions...
I'm glad they're pretty quickly going over the non-winners and not dragging it out. Yet.
I want Tucker to cut his hair. The floppy curls are a little silly looking. They remind me of ...that character from the Simpsons?
What makes me boggle is that these people were small children when Season 1 happened!!
Tucker/Nico/Jasmine/Mackenzie: (Why does only Jasmine have a last name? Is there another Jasmine?) Hey, is this not an 80s song? Stacey branching out? I quite liked the last 20-30 seconds of it, but not the whole thing. Don't have much of an impression of any of them individually from that. OOOH! He cut his hair! Rock on. Thumbs up, Tucker. I like that Adam is trying to actually give criticism?
So, two tappers? We shall see. Oh! Three tappers! Huh. That must be a crazy call to get. And huh...I'm actually liking this ok. Well, most of it. I think it's a cool song choice. That end pose is awful though.
I was wondering when they were going to bring up that Jake (Jade?) is hella short. Oh, dang, but he got in! They are both pretty darn awesome at what they do, but I wonder how they'll do with other stuff...eek. Hmm. J started off kinda shaky it seemed, but I felt like he got better? The look on Blueprint's face was kinda weird through half of it.
Carlos, Malece (girl, what are you wearing in your judging??),Haley: Don't love all the "Let me show you my spanky pants!" moves. And a couple places where the lighting didn't keep up with the choreo. But it was OK...more for the choreo and music than the dancing, though. Hrm.
SIX ballroom dancers possible? Dang, that'd be awesome.
Britney/(Oh Mary quit trying to be evil)/I feel like they're giving these ballroom kids shorter shrift than the others have gotten--saw less of them in Vegas maybe?
Alan/Britney/Jenna/Paul: OK, I admit this song is a guilty pleasure of mine. I can't tell the boys apart on stage! One of them looks like he's better than the other, but I can't tell which is which!
Haley/Jasmine (duh, now it makes sense why they were calling the other Jasmine by both names): cool piece. I liked them both OK.
Top 10 Boys: I liked the idea of this, but felt like it wasn't hit as hard as it should've been? I'd so be driven nuts finding sand everywhere for the next week. :)
Top 10 Girls: It was cute, I don't have much feeling specifically.
Top 20: Interesting. Very scifi costumes. After that first line, three boys walked off stage. Oh, I see. They get to do their own thing. For ten seconds, then walk off again. That's not promising. Also, all this smoke is makign me think of the "nitrogen in the pool and people dying" video someone posted earlier, so it's just freaking me out!
And now I'm going to go read what y'all said! YAY!
I don't get Jade in the Top 20. He seems not to be that great in other styles and he's a teeny man and despite what Mia says, that is going to be a problem for partnering. But I got Tucker and he's gorgeous and he cut off the tragic hair so I'm happy
Hahahh. Glad others were focused on the hair and the height too.
BTW, their choreographer I *know* was on something. And his teeth could be seen from SPACE.
Yes, he seemed very weird.
I thought the judges' comments were kind of bullshitty.
Sadly, it's so rare that they aren't!
I was glad to see no NappyTab fingerprints on my hip hop.
I was definitely thinking of you, Kat, when I saw that it was not NappyTab.
I was annoyed that Sonya basically just decided to sideline anyone who wasn't a jazz or ballet/modern trained dancer by sending them off stage for large swathes of the Top 20 group routine while she choreographed a very traditional jazz piece for a select few dancers.
EXACTLY. Sonya, work within the limitations given you. Don't just say "fuck it" and have them dance 10 seconds and leave!
Can I just say, it is pretty awesome to be able to open a couple of tabs of the browser, fire up the DVR and pause after every routine to read y'all said about it. I was vaguely feeling like I should put more effort into watching live, but I might like this way better!
Yes, but also I can't wait until I get to see it live with Kat and bon bon and bob bob next week!
They remind me of ...that character from the Simpsons?
Sideshow Bob.
I'd so be driven nuts finding sand everywhere for the next week. :)
I just kept worrying that they were going to slip and fall down.
What makes me boggle is that these people were small children when Season 1 happened!!
I know, right?
Yes, but also I can't wait until I get to see it live with Kat and bon bon and bob bob next week!
Jealous!
