This girl at school? She told me that gelatin is made from ground-up cow's feet and that every time you eat Jell-O there's some cow out there limping around without any feet. But I told her that I'm sure the cow is dead before they cut its feet off, right?

Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

and good gems with a Rick Bayliss interview about Top Chef Masters:

First, Rick said that after “never less than two hours” or three hours of being judged, when the chefs would return to the kitchen table, “they [producers] had it loaded with booze. Because they wanted us to just sit there and drink ourselves silly, because that was always an hour, an hour and a half while the judges deliberated. And then we would have to go back and stand in front of them, and then they really wanted us to be sort of loose, can you say,” he said.

“So we would sit down at that table and no one would drink. And then the producers would come over and go, ‘How about a beer? How about some wine? We’ll open it for you. Here, we’ll pour it.’” Also during the interview, Rick said, “There’s an always an open bar; there’s always booze every way you turn.”

During season one, producers “had a hard time getting any chefs of note,” he said. (And apparently had the same problem this year, I say!) Because the show was new, producers promised the chefs they cast, “you have to trust us on this” and said “we’re going to be gentle with you guys.” He notes that it worked out and because “nobody’s doing any backbiting,” that “really turned out to be its charm in the end.”

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I like Floyd, but am annoyed that one of the women didn't win. What a crap ass season of Top Chef Masters.

"We have trust issues." Mylar

Is Alexander kat's flappy pants boy?

Yes! Flippy jeans boy = Alexander and I thought he was perfectly lovely last night. I don't know why the judges were so down on him.

Liese, I loved your recap so much, I want to cover it in chalk white body paint and pretend that we are two statues becoming one. No heart hands, though, because that's just wrong.

Ryan has all the tools to be a great dancer except soul and that one is the most important one.

Melanie was by far my favorite dancer of the night last night.

Art Crawl!!!

TCM: Not a bad finale - but not a wow finale. I like Floyd but kind of wanted one of the women to win, just because.

Meanwhile, remember the Keno Twins from Antiques Road Show? They are casting for their own new show Buried Treasure.

Hubert Keller, Rick Bayless, and Michael Chiorello are not chefs of note? If anything I thought they started on a super high note and have gone down hill. Season 2 was good, too, though, just less household names but very much talented and accomplished chefs.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

SYTYCD - I really like Melanie ... but part of that is she reminds me a little of our meara - small, short dark hair. But she can dance (meara can too - she just hasn't done so on national TV).

Ryan irritates me - I'm not sure if it's the big smiley face or what. And I liked the dance she was in the least of all the ones last night. Actually, the one she was in was the only one I didn't like.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I liked all of the chefs. I mean, if I had to pick a least favorite, it was Michelle, but that's just because she seemed kind of cold. I really liked Mary Sue, and wanted her to win because she seemed so nice.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

ND, I think he meant that they eventually got chefs of note, but it wasn't easy for them to do so.

Bwah! Right backatcha, sister! But you know, without heart hands.
