I think I may die before my 1pm meeting. My office is imploding all around me. I heard a rumor that my boss is going to take a month of medical leave, but she hasn't told me that yet, and it's killing me.

I bet every cable operator has horror stories. My mom has worked for the local cable operator for 25 years and if I thought I got shit about my job-- family reunions in different states were devoted to complaining to her about what that effing company did now.

I lost just a little. It could have been so much worse, I'm not even thinking about whining.

I may have more perspective to the whole computer thing, considering how in the last couple of weeks (1) my sister announced that she and her boyfriend are getting married (in two months!) (2) my best friend (and her two sons, who are the closest thing I have to nephews) are leaving next week for the USA for around two years (3) a dear friend became a father (4) and scheduled the "brit" to his son in the one time I couldn't possibly be there

my band may be playing in Las Vegas in August at this great big rollerderby convention thing

Jon! I'm so glad I get to early-congratulate you in your screen! I'm so very pleased I got to meet FAQwife (when she was "only" FAQGirl, but still).

The guy who's going to be replacing me while I'm on leave is at my desk today. I'm at a different desk, much more centrally located. It's giving me a whole new perspective on the whole open-plan thing...back in my ops corner, things were so different! My monitor didn't face anyone but me! I feel so exposed!

Also, this station's mouse has a track ball. Whyfore no optical mouse for Jess?

Natural selection is an inexorable processor of information about the natural world, transcribing data about the world into the information storage devices that we call species. Man was not an accident. But that is the central message of evolution, not a reason to reject evolution.
