I was in Borders to pick up a magazine and there was a kid trying to get his Mom to buy the book "Look! It's 40% off!" the mom was "where's the paperback? I'll buy a paperback. Shouldn't there be a paperback like this ?"
I was poked my nose in and explained that paperbacks come out awhile after hardcovers. "It's so expensive!" "Mom! It's 40% off!" was the discussion when I left.
Aw. They need to go to the library.
I paid full price, but the part of that went to our local volunteer education foundation. They also had folks at the release party collecting any added donations for the foundation.
I'm ok with that.
I was 207th on thhe hold list at my library when I went ahead and bought it.
Every copy at the library is on hold or checked out. They have more on order though.
Our library system has a thing called Hot Picks where they have popular books available for seven-day checkout; the catch is you can't place a hold on them. So I got a copy Saturday morning.

I wonder what they do with the extras. Like, they don't really need to
keep
three bazillion copies in regular rotation, once the rush is over.
I asked once, they get books on loan and they have special label on them, then after the rush is over they are sent some place else so the library isn't stocked with too many copies of whatever.
Figures someone here would actually
know
!
Well they all had this strange label on it and I couldn't decipher it so I asked.

also, they are often donated to schools or sold at book sales. Which I always feel funny about 'cause then it looks like I stole the book from the library :)
