Well, it's just good to know that when the chips are down and things look grim you'll feed off the girl who loves you to save your own ass!

Spike's Bitches 36: Did I Sully Our Good Name?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

When we were planning Em's birth, Joe and I had very different ideas.

I wanted a doula and a midwife and to have a water birth.

Joe wanted the hospital and machines that go "ping".

Sometimes, I suspect he willed the c-section onto to me to show me he was right.

I have told my husband that on the slim chance I should ever be pregnant my wardrobe shall consist of t-shirts imprinted with the following instructions for the doctors and my signature: "Please administer painkillers early and often."

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Cut a hole in the back and write: "Place Drugs Here" with an arrow pointing to your spine.

It occurs that with all of the sprogging we seem to be doing around here, maybe we should have a birthing/parenting thread.

Not that I proposing it, mind you.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

A doctor once informed me that women lose blood every month and, since I'm a vegetarian, I'm not eating blood to replace it, and so I won't be able to have kids. (I was 15 or so at the time, and a bit too startled to counter with, "Um, India?") This was the same doctor who told me that my pain was entirely psychosomatic before he examined me.

Crazy doctors. I could add stories, but I'll just sit back and read for now.

How asinine.

Trust my rage

It occurs that with all of the sprogging we seem to be doing around here, maybe we should have a birthing/parenting thread.

I have occasionally thought this. I definitely censor my parent-related issues here, mainly because I worry about boring people. I wonder if the non-parents get tired of the topic. But maybe it's just like cats or baseball.

eta: I know sometimes doctors are necessary but there are so many reasons to avoid them.

aw, I'd be sad if the parenting stuff left Bitches.

But maybe it's just like cats or baseball.

For me it's like this. I'll admit to skip/skimming sometimes, but I want to know what's happening with my bitches, and I know I want to hear the "it was white and square and it looked like a tooth so I swallowed it" stories.

This.

I know the thread has really changed over time, partly because of the parenting stuff and personal stuff, but it feels like it's grown with us. I like it.
