Experimental TV: Comedy

This thread is part of an experiment to determine Buffistas' interest in television discussion. It will close on June 1st, 2007, after which there will be a brief skirmish to sort out what we want to do next. This thread is for discussion of all comedy, regardless of airing station. [NAFDA]

It's a re-run, this week? Feh. You're right. They do hold up, but still. Feh.

Probably new for me, since I've only just caught up with S1 and S2. Which, I'm so glad I did. I can't believe how much I adore these characters. And the unexpected touchingly sweet moments are so, so wonderful because they always catch me by surprise. I think I fell in forever love with it during the scene with Michael and Jim on the booze cruise ("... then don't give up.") So matter of fact and right. D'awww.

I keep wanting to try The Office, but it's been on so long, and I'm too lazy to catch up on who's who and all that.

So worth it. So, so worth it. And, yeah, I think I caught a couple of episodes from S3 at some point, and I wasn't all that lost.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Woo-hoo! A thread in which I can talk about The Office with Buffistas! *clutches the thread* It's too bad it's rerun this week.

I've also fallen pretty hard for 30 Rock, and I don't know if I wanna be Liz Lemon, or I wanna do Liz Lemon. Suffice it to say that I have a girl crush on Tina Fey big enough to give my other girl crush on Jenna Fischer a run for its money. I also find myself shipping Liz with *everyone*. Well, maybe not Lutz, since he called her that awful name.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

You cannot be Liz Lemon because I am Liz Lemon. No, it's completely true. I swear more than once I've experienced watching an episode in work clothes AND SHE'S WEARING THE EXACT SAME OUTFIT. We apparently have quite the love for sweaters over button-up shirts. Professional and lazy! Also I kind of love Lutz because he's a writer for SNL so he's pretty much playing himself, but he's also a fab improvisor. Tina takes care of her friends.

I might love this show a little much.

Of all the supporting characters from 30 Rock, I have a serious soft spot for Pete. He's so hilariously hangdog and he looks so harassed all the time. Poor thing.

I nearly killed myself laughing during the episode before the last when they first showed Will Arnett in that ultra-short bathrobe. The show has gotten ridiculously good in the last couple of months (not that it was horrible at the beginning, but it took some time to gel.)

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

I love Pete! I don't understand why he's living on Liz's floor. But I love that Pete and Jack are like her best friends, with all the attendant weirdness. And I like her new dude.

I think Freddy Quimby should walk out of here a free hotel

30 Rock had me from the pilot's opening scene where Liz buys ALL the hotdogs and gives them out to disgusted New Yorkers to the theme of 'Pam, the Morbidly Obese, Overly Confident Women'. It was such a concise introduction and I get itchy crazy with queue-jumpers; it was like they had made this particular revenge fantasy for me.

Heh. Yeah, it had me from that scene too. I gave it a shot because of Tina Fey, but I was so hooked from the beginning, especially once Jack was introduced.

I know! It seems like the story of this show is "such dramatic turnaround" but it has always been funny. The pacing of individual episodes has improved but clearly the potential for comedic greatness was there from the hot dog scene.

I think they take the idea of a drama and mock the hell out of it.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Colbert was adorable last night with Paulina Poreskova (I know I got the spelling wrong). Also, I love how Ric Ocasek has become a recurring charcter on the show (it reminds a little of how Tom Petty was always turning up on It's Gary Shandling's Show - there's a show I'd love DVDs of).
