Experimental TV: Comedy

This thread is part of an experiment to determine Buffistas' interest in television discussion. It will close on June 1st, 2007, after which there will be a brief skirmish to sort out what we want to do next. This thread is for discussion of all comedy, regardless of airing station. [NAFDA]

What is even happening?

I doubt Jim has him MBA, and I really felt like he had the job and just didn't want it. It could be sexism. That's what Scott thinks. I just think Karen must look as good on paper as Jim, and she presents herself well. I'm wondering if she just made a classic blunder in believing anything is ever actually off the record. She didn't show loyalty or respect for her immediate superior. I assume that David Wallace will be the immediate superior of the person who gets Jan's position.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I'm guessing that after Jim's interview Karen came back from lunch, he told her that he thought she'd get the job and that he wouldn't move to NY to be with her and that she accepted that, also thinking she'd get the job. So Ryan getting it is going to make their break up retroactively harder.

What is even happening?

I think he came back from lunch and told Karen he didn't want the job and wanted to go back to Scranton. Since they'd already had the, "We'll never make it in Scranton," conversation, there wasn't too much else to say.

So Ryan getting it is going to make their break up retroactively harder.
Yes, and much more interesting.

Ann, that's a ferret.

At least they know Ryan won't sleep with Michael, as much as Michael wants to.

I kept hoping for Ryan and Jim, but that's just me.

What is even happening?

Ryan's not nice enough for Jim.

Jim: I liked you better as a temp

Ryan: Me, too.

Always Anti-fascist!

I liked that Jim stuck around for Michael's "party". Once again, Michael's awkward side made me care about him. Also, I saw the Scrubs musical. Very cute.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

Continued from the Drama thread - last night was Fox Pilot Night at our house. The only comedy I watched was The Return of Jezebel James, which is Amy Sherman Palladino's new show with Parker Posey.

I wish it were better. Maybe it will get better, I don't know. As it currently stands, it's very awkward and not very funny. Parker Posey is playing a broader version of Lorelai and it just doesn't quite work in a sitcom context. Losing the laugh track would be a huge step in the right direction, but honestly I'm just not sure Palladino can write broad sitcom-style comedy. I don't think a half-hour format is right for this show.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I'm hoping that Parker Posey can pull it out.

What is even happening?

I really hope we have some sort of sitcom thread. I loved talking with you all about The Office. I don't actually care if it is a dedicated thread, or a boxed-set style thread, but I hope we have something.

The experimental threads should close today, so goodbye everyone. See you on the other side.
