What changed for Jo between last week and this one?

Nothing. I think we are objecting to the last two weeks of Jo/Zane. No chemistry between the actors, the characters are wrong for each other, and we really really like Jo well enough not to want to see her fall for that dick Zane. Also while it is not impossible for someone like Jo to fall for someone like Zane, they did nothing to make us believe it. I don't get the impression you disagree with any of that, but could be wrong.

Yeah, that always bugs me... when they drag out that 'they keep missing each other-but they both really LIKE each other so why can't they be together?!' thing. I don't hate Zane either, I just wish they explored more of the 'eureka talent scout' idea. thought that might have been fun. Where does Zane even live? Did I miss that?

I'm all for Allison ignoring Carter in favor of things heating back up with Stark, and Carter starting something with the nice invisible dry cleaning lady. Both couples make more sense to me than Carter/Allison did.

I disliked her calling him in the middle of his workday and expecting to be able to chat. It's fine, but he's a cop. You probably shouldn't be surprised when he needs to hang up on you and run to avert tragedy.

I liked Zane okay, but I really disliked the "I didn't like that" series of comments from him. Hated it enough that I wrote a really ranty post about it, with profanity, which the internet swallowed. So I figured, guess I didn't need to post it that badly.

But really, dude, you've been out with her once. That doesn't entitle you to lay down the law on who she's interested in. I suppose it was meant to read as him being vulnerable and admitting his attraction, but it came off as domineering and possessive.

And that does make me hate him. Along with the whole "your job isn't really important or challenging" thing. She's a forkin cop in a town full of dangerously crazy people.

I'm mostly okay with the dry cleaning lady calling to chat--it's how discouraged you get when you don't get what you want that counts.

I'm not crazy about Jo/Zane as a 'ship (and I am rather disappointed that Jo isn't ignoring his attentions), but I rather liked the "I didn't like that". It felt to me an honest and somewhat modest statement of feeling rather than overboard domineering jealousy. I thought Zane was merely putting out there that he likes Jo enough to not want to watch her sucking face with some other guy. We already know he's a self-centered, arrogant, unthinking jerk - this just doesn't seem like an arrogant, unthinking expression. Of course, at the moment I can see the same lines coming out of Colin's mouth, and being utterly controlling in a very sinister fashion, as he gets his evil on the way ita promises he can. It goes almost without saying that he wouldn't be in character as Sheriff Tightpants Grabass Carter.

See, yeah, Zane is arrogant and unthinking, and so self-centered, I can see how he has not bothered to process Jo's value to the community, and the fact that she is extremely good at a job that few people can do, one that takes not only native talent and intelligence, but dedicated learning as well. Zane is anti-social enough that he has no clue what it takes for society to work. But I would believe that he is capable of being honest enough to express how he feels - as he did - and mean that not to be an obligation for Jo to conform her behavior to his wishes, but for Jo to express herself honestly in return. I think that if she had come back with an "I'm sorry that hurt you, that is what I really want, so if we can't just be friends, let's at least be civil," he could have been ok with that.

I dunno. Maybe I'm talking out my hat. I think what I like least about the Jo/Zane thing is that I hate seeing competant women end up in relationships where they have to be the mommy for some immature jerk. We get enough of that in sit-coms, why do we have to have it on Sci-Fi?
