Doctor Who 3.11.:
Wheee! John Barrowman in the title credits. And John Simm! JOHN SIMM!!
Parts of the episode were
a bit lame (dark quarry, anybody?), but the moment when Derek Jacobi turned around having opened the watch made up for everything.
Wow.
somewhere during my TV watching, I saw an ad which featured this line: "Son, your Mom and I sold your soul to the devil". Any idea which series that is from?
When I say this last Who was creepy, I don't mean that in any sense like the last one. Listening to the conversation between the Doctor
and Jack
--any of their conversations--
made me feel like I shouldn't be there. There was something nakedly intimate about it, and that's even before you get to slashing them.
Fiona, was there spoilage for
who Jacobi/Simm played?
Also, what did Martha mean when she
recognized the voice? Was he the guy whose name I'm forgetting--the one who told her mother the Doctor was a bad man?
Last week's episode was such a
perfect standalone, and then there's this one which is tied in to so many other stories.
Cool. Different way, but cool.
Who, 3.11:
Holy shit. I knew Simm was playing the Master, but the dawning realization that Jacobi was a Time Lord, and that he'd regenerate into Simm -- that was awesome.
Man, and Jack. I hate that the Doctor just walked away from him, that he knew what had happened to Jack, and he just left him, but yet again, it's a horrible thing that's perfectly in character. And what great scenes between the two of them. I am VERY EXCITED.
Oh, and
I loved hearing the Torchwood theme music worked into the score as the Doctor stood over Jack that first time.
Weirdly enough, when I first saw
Jacobi in his getup, and even more with the addition of Chan To, I thought--cool! Time Lord!
For a couple seconds, and then moved on. I got to the realisation of the full truth at just about the speed the plot intended.
Doctor Who
3x11:
Eeeeeee! That was wicked cool, especially the second half of the episode. It felt a bit slow and off-kilter in the first half, and Jack and the Doctor were so stiff and strange with each other -- but of course, then everything fell into place after their little chat. I loved the reveal that Jack missed his mark by a century and change and had to live through all of it to get back to where he was supposed to be.
So
how the hell are the Doctor, Martha, and Jack going to get back to the 21st century? And will the answer involve Utopia in some way? Surely we have to find out what that is in the next episode -- something tells me it's not quite all it's cracked up to be.
Mostly, though,
I'm just all *wavy hands* over the Master. JOHN EFFING SIMM! So cool! Yay! He should be evil on my TV all the time.
Kate,
I have a feeling that Jack's wristband is going to get sonic screwdrivered next episode. And I also have a feeling that the Doctor is going to have to endure a fair amount of needling from Jack about how his crappy little time hopper saved their asses.
