Boxed Set, Vol. IV: It's always suicide-mission this, save-the-planet that.
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
David Greenwalt is going to be running Moonlight
I guess his vampire detective show cred is as good as anyone's. Just don't start the female lead out kickass and snarky and turn her into Snuggles the Fabric Softener Bear this time, Dave.
Snuggles the Fabric Softener Bear this time,
"I wanna hunt that little bitch down, I swear."
Nora -- In the current thread, it starts here: Fiona "Boxed Set, Vol. IV: It's always suicide-mission this, save-the-planet that." Apr 13, 2007 3:25:46 am PDT but there was definitely some stuff in the previous thread as well.
I guess you found it, then?
I did! Thanks Jon. During the end of the finale and for some time after, I couldn't stop crying. It was heartbreaking in a way that I couldn't really vocalize. I don't know if that makes me a sap or what, but I was quite upset about it. Some of that might be due to the fact that the entire finale was a total mindfuck whiplash, and just getting to the end was exhausting.
I did not feel it was a happy ending (which you may have gathered) and I am weirded out by the fact that the producers/directors seem to think so. I don't have a problem with the suicide itself, per se, but I just thought it was gut wrenching that, if the 2006 reality was indeed the "real" one, he was so alone. So alone that he created this fantasy. So alone that he had to go back to it.
I am willing to entertain the wank that Sam actually was an amnesiac police officer in 1973 who went completely nuts and thought he was from the future, but... uh... that's pretty fucked up too. Actually, now that I think about it, he did have knowledge of the future (technology, day to day stuff, historical perspective) so maybe NSM.
In the end, though, I feel like a lot of it comes down to the conversation that Sam and Nelson had at the bar (as the show made clear, by referencing it several times). The whole, what is real? who's to say that one reality is more valid than another? I don't know if the show quite pulled that off though. It was... too linear for me to let go and be OK with that POV. If it had more sci-fi-itude, or a slightly different tv universe, I could have gone with it. But I don't totally buy it.
I think I have more but I'm processing.
Your second paragraph, first sentence? My Sistah!
also, the fact that the Gene Hunt gang is the dream/alternate reality, it seems weird that there's going to be a spin off of it.
Is that just me? It just doesn't feel right.
I hasten to add: not that I'm not looking forward to More Gene Hunt !
