(Please tell me I'm not the only one on the board who saw Idiocracy and spent a good part of the movie whimpering at how much their government resembled our own?)
Actually, having just finished reading Shards of Honor, which was written in -- was it 1986? -- I was spooked by how prescient it seemed w/r/t the entire government being corrupt evil sodomizers.
I just wish we had Aral Vorkosigan to take them all out.
no one has suffered over Iraq more than her and W. No one.
Even taking it in context, it still sounds (to me) an awful lot like "Let them eat cake."
I think she just meant to convey that they feel the weight of responsibility. Perhaps not the best way to put it though.
I think she just meant to convey that they feel the weight of responsibility.
This is appropriate, I think. But it sounded to me like she was saying, even giving her the benefit of the doubt, "but we've suffered too!" which is basically bullshit. I don't think it's appropriate to talk about how much suffering the problem has caused you when you created the problem yourself.
I think she just meant to convey that they feel the weight of responsibility.
I do think that this is what she meant, but I see little evidence that Bush feels the weight of responsibility. He's been the most powerful man in the world for years now, and he still can't be bothered to learn the most basic things necessary to do his job well. He's ignorant and self-absorbed and seems to be untouched by real events in the world, including the massive suffering caused by his ignorance and self-absorption. If he were paying attention at any meaningful level we would expect to see some evidence that he is learning--or at least trying to learn.
I am doing online chat reference this afternoon and every single person I have talked to has been a spammer (with questions about penis size, etc.). Ye gods the multitudes, they are unwashed. Thank god for all you people.
I was coming here to say "Did she actually say this", but I see from Cindy's post that she did. Because I have a a co-worker whose son's head was *split open* up the back by a bomb. Laura has suffered more than them? I gave birth to a baby without my husband (among a million other things that year)...pretty minor in the scheme of things, but has Laura suffered through that?
Stephanie, the White House should be flooded with these stories. I don't think they have any idea how much weight they really should be carrying.
I will happily wear short skirts if they cover the ass.
I need skirts that are long enough so that I don't show the world my underpants when I'm getting on and off the bus.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure she hasn't suffered as much as the mom I held, weeping, telling me her son had been killed. If she has, I feel really, really bad for her.
I think we should spread the word that Fallujah is the most happening new Spring Break nightlife spot this year. Then when Jenna and Barbara hit the dunes looking to party she can suffer as much as all the other people worried about their loved ones' safety overseas.
