How cool is this news?
New 'super-Earth' found in space
In just 15 years, we've gone from wondering if there are other planets to finding an Earth-like (at least in size and probable temperature) planet only 20 light years away.
Now we just need to make a probe and wait for a couple thousand years to check it out.
Thanks for posting the link to the Ebert column, ita -- I knew he'd had to have his jaw removed and rebuilt because of the cancer, but this is the first picture I've seen. It's good to read that he's well enough to go to the movies again.
I've kind of given up on doing Actual Work today.
I need to wake up before I can give up, I think. Although I'm pretty sure I'll be spending most of the day furtively running errands because I'm getting on a plane tomorrow morning.
I got some awesome Hello Kitty stickers and a Target Gift Certificate for Admin Professionals Day. I still liked my old office where they actually just gave us the day off!
Oh, man, I am so glad I read the board this morning. Even after bitching about it yesterday, I completely forgot about the needing to go in early for staff appreciation day thing.

Checked in for your flight yet? Huh? Huh? I have.
I also woke up really early today, which I guess is good, considering how early I'm going to have to get up tomorrow. Also, I should pack.
And the weather here is horrendous. Better today than tomorrow.

Oh, duh. I could do that, and I shall. I'm mostly packed already, although I need to poke at the TSA site because it's been a while since I've been to the airport.

I'm trying to decide when I should ask the taxi to show up. I am thinking probably 5:45am, which is horrendous, although I'm not complaining because I'm sleeping in compared to you.
Oh! Hey! It's secretary's day!
Awesome.
A sample math question for a Chinese university entrance test, compared with one for an English university. Damn. The English one is incredibly remedial, but the Chinese one - I'd have to sit and think a bit on that one.

The tests are set for prospective science undergraduates.
The UK's Royal Society of Chemistry is offering a £500 prize to one lucky but bright person who answers the question below correctly.
It has also published a test used in a "well known and respected" English university - the society is not naming it - to assess the strength of incoming science undergraduates' maths skills.
A glance at the two questions reveals how much more advanced is the maths teaching in China, where children learn the subject up to the age of 18, the society says.
Happy Admin Professional Day to all the Admin Professionals!
Ugh. I got an update on my BIL. He's still in the Hospital with hallucinations and way elevated blood pressure. He's been there since Monday.
