Actually, I'm now on the Eastern Shore.
I knew this. Why I didn't use that information shall remain a mystery. And you should definitely join us for CCRG!
Anyway, get estimates from movers. They vary wildly. If you've got a kitchen, this is a good think to let the movers pack because it takes a professional a lot less time and it means you can leave everything right where it is until the day before you go. Start a running list of the credit card companies, etc., that will need your new address so you can check them off. Check to see if your bank has branches in SF -- if not, open an account while you're there. Banking rules are different in CA, so you'll want to transfer your account to a local branch even if your current bank has branches.
OMG. I just heard my boss asking what time our staff meeting is tomorrow. They have been at the same time since I started, which is before my boss started.
Seriously.
Did y'all hear the owner of the Blackhawks is threatening to sell the team if the NHLPA hires someone like Goodenow? All over blog land I've seen comments like "Yes! Please!"
Well, much as I sympathize with people ready for Bill Wirtz to go away, I do think another Goodenow would be disastrous for the NHLPA. I think he was the #1 person to blame for the way the player strike went down, and it set pro hockey back a decade or more in terms of market penetration and TV contracts.
And you can say you were there at the beginning. It just goes to show you that being tipsy for your first interview is not always a bad thing.
Me too! Me too!!! Yay, Megan! I knew you'd wow them. Of course I'm sad you're leaving this coast but I'm out there at least once a year so I may end up seeing you more after you move then I did before.
And thinking about maybe hitting roller derby this weekend if I have a car!
Ooh ooh!!!!
I highly recommend getting tix before the bout because they tend to sell out and, also, getting there super early (mostly because we start playing at 6 exactly and will be muscled off, and boy can those girls muscle!, as soon as our 1/2 hour's up...um...if you want to see the band...).
As for moving cross-country, it's been over 10 years now but when I moved from SF to NC I drove with whatever fit in my Corolla and shipped everything else (which was mostly books) UPS. It worked pretty well. Fairly cost efficient and nothing was lost or mangled in any way.

Hee!
Although, yeah, I agree with Matt.
UPS also used to charge a $5 flat fee to come out to the house and pick up all the boxes there -- I dunno if they do that any more, but it meant no schlepping.
Congratulations megan!
David -- when does the "Best of the South" issue come out?

I don't know enough about Goodenow and what led up to the Year Without Hockey, I was just a baby fan, having only started watching in January 2004. But the reaction reminded me of wank on lj where someone threatens to Leave Fandom Forever as a sympathy bid, but everyone rejoices.
