I highly recommend getting tix before the bout because they tend to sell out and, also, getting there super early (mostly because we start playing at 6 exactly and will be muscled off, and boy can those girls muscle!, as soon as our 1/2 hour's up...um...if you want to see the band...).
As for moving cross-country, it's been over 10 years now but when I moved from SF to NC I drove with whatever fit in my Corolla and shipped everything else (which was mostly books) UPS. It worked pretty well. Fairly cost efficient and nothing was lost or mangled in any way.
Did y'all hear the owner of the Blackhawks is threatening to sell the team if the NHLPA hires someone like Goodenow? All over blog land I've seen comments like "Yes! Please!"

UPS also used to charge a $5 flat fee to come out to the house and pick up all the boxes there -- I dunno if they do that any more, but it meant no schlepping.

Well, much as I sympathize with people ready for Bill Wirtz to go away, I do think another Goodenow would be disastrous for the NHLPA.
I don't know enough about Goodenow and what led up to the Year Without Hockey, I was just a baby fan, having only started watching in January 2004. But the reaction reminded me of wank on lj where someone threatens to Leave Fandom Forever as a sympathy bid, but everyone rejoices.
I fear hockey is now that boy you kinda keep around in case you need a date at the last minute.

I watched some open wheel racing a few weekends ago. It was in Vegas. -- Champ car racing? I didn't watch much because they went a few laps waiting to start and then there was a crash right off and I got bored waiting for more racing.
Although it's much prettier in High Def than normal. And the street course racing looked more interesting than just going in an oval.
Did not get to go to lunch and pick up present. There were 20 other things that needed my attention (Dudes! Your URGENT! is not always my URGENT!). Now there's a tornado warning, so I doubt I'll leave.
