megan!! Whoo!!!! I'd be more than happy to help you look, but I'll be out of town the second weekend.

Well, I'm loathe to leave it until the second weekend anyway, so I'm shooting for May 5/6. Living in NYC for so long the idea of apartment hunting in another expensive city terrifies me more than leaving academia.

Also, anyone with advice on moving long distance (not a lot of stuff, but stuff that has to come with) would be greatly appreciated. Sparky, maybe, since you just did the reverse of what I'm planning?

sara, what's MJD?

Modified julian date. Right now it is 54214.77. More or less.

Thrive to spite them

Congrats megan!!

Maria --great minds think a like!

Although it really is hard with my team out in the first round, it's going to be a long off season. One player has already left the team (he's UFA and the Lightning didn't make him an offer) and there's the ever present goal tending issues. Not to mention the rumors that will fly out of Canada that the Lightning are just about to make a deal to trade Vincent LeCavalier to Montreal for a couple of draft picks (just no! He's a key player and it's been said over and over that he won't go anywhere! Plus I think he'd make a good Captain). It's questionable if our Captain will be back, he has to get hip surgery.

Who's paying for your move, megan?

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Oooooo, that would be an interesting match-up.

I know! And I wouldn't be able to choose between the two. I like them both.

Me too! Well, actually, I'm a Sabres fan all the way (hi-fives Sparky), but I still love the Canucks.

megan, I can also help advise. E me with questions, as well as your apt. requirements & budget, and I shall start thinking!

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Heh. Try being a Flyers fan from birth, and a Caps fan by adoption. I don't know which team was more painful to watch this year.

Who's paying for your move, megan?

Well, they normally wouldn't pay for relocation at all, but are giving me $1500 as a signing bonus to help cover some of the cost. I'm getting rid of most of my furniture except for a few small things I inherited from my parents. And, of course, there are the books.

I can't even imagine the agony of being a Flyers fan from birth and watching them this year.

(Actual explanation of MJD from wikipedia [ just have a converter tool, so I ignore the history]:

The Julian day or Julian day number (JDN) is the integer number of days that have elapsed since the initial epoch defined as noon Universal Time (UT) Monday, January 1, 4713 BC in the proleptic Julian calendar [1]. That noon-to-noon day is counted as Julian day 0.

MJD is JD- 2,400,000.5
