Why do women's shoes hurt? I just bought THE cutest pair of shoes, canvas flats, you'd think they'd be comfy, right? But after 20 minutes of wearing them, they've just about worn a hole in both feet from where the "comfy" elastic was sewn into the vamp, creating a hard lump on the inside right above the little toe and the base of the big toe. This is just stupid. These are fairly pricey shoes from a upscale maker. Why the hell would they make them like this? There are no feet that would not be punctured by these things. I'm mad; they're so cute, but I have to send them back.
Rant over. Carry on.
I sympathize, Zenkitty. I just had a pair of danskos wear a hole in my heel (my fault for waring them barefoot, I guess.
Weirdly, though, some of my foot problems have gone away since I started taking the bus-- I no longer have symptoms of plantar fasciitis, for example (or at least my heel doesn't kill me with every step I take. My boss, a for ortho NP thinks it is just a coincidence, but the assistant director, who is both a nurse and a PHd in Anatomy and is sort of a freaky genius, thinks maybe it was how I held my foot when driving that was aggravating the condition.
Wow. I just got a performance report for one of my shows. It was the 100th performance! In celebration, bagels and bacon were had by all!
I have a billion bagels , but no bacon. bacon would be good. Happy 100th show day, aurelia!
I am guessing the nurse is right. I also think with a little more walking and standing, you are stretching your foot naturally.
Sophia, that's really interesting, that they thought it was driving that aggravated your plantar. When mine was really acting up, I went to a mandated PF "training" at Kaiser, and other than my sister & me, most of the women were there because they had jobs that kept them on their feet.
I mostly manage mine by stretching my feet as soon as I get up, and wearing only shoes with orthotics or good arch support. It's been bothering me a little bit the last few months, since I've been running more, but not enough to really cause a problem. The big limitation for me is on what kind of shoes I can buy.
Today, for instance, I spent $60 on flip-flops at REI, because they were made by Chaco and had both Vibram soles and enough arch support that I'd be able to actually wear them. I also scored two excellent running tops on sale, so I can retire some of my skanky running bras. But Nike still has weird ideas about sizing: 36B is not small, people...
36B is small. So says the 42DD.
My plantar fasciitis is aggravated when I fall asleep on my back with my heels pressing against the mattress, so I can see why driving might contribute to the pain. Also, I can't wear my Chaco sandals because they're just not squishy enough -- it's like walking on hard flooring all day and my feet scream.
34DDD/DDDD (depending on cut) over here believes firmly that anything sold at REI slots into dainty and delicate.
But that could be my bitterness about the lack of larger-sized sports bras there.
(Oh! ita! I got one of the DKNY ones. Wish I could have found it in black, but all they had in my size was nude. It really is great!)
my bitterness about the lack of larger-sized sports bras there.
Well, that's the thing. I guess I said it backwards: I am 36B and I grabbed a medium and it was too small. WTF? I've seen this before, this presumption that athletic women of average build have small breasts, and it isn't necessarily so.
There might not be that much of a call for sports bras for women who wear cup sizes smaller than a B. Maybe that's why it's small?
