Oklahoma City was April 19, not today.

Well, Patriot's Day should be 4/19, but it's observed on the 3rd Monday, so.

I googled - it wasn't Ruby Ridge. For some reason I seem to recall that in addition to Waco and the Oklahoma City bombing, something else happened on this day.

But not as much as my sister, whose birthday falls this week. (Waco, Columbine, and now this?)

my mom's b'day this week also. shit. I just got back from lunch and saw the news. My cousin is down there. I have to call my mom and see if she's heard anything.

It's hard to post when something like this happens. I can't help but think of the parents whose kids will never come home from college and there's not much to say. Then I feel guilty about forgetting that in some places of the world this sort of story is just an ordinary day.

oh good my mom talked to my cousin and he was in his off-campus apartment and hadn't heard what had happened. She sent an email out to let us all know right away. Hooray for good communication.

Oklahoma Bombing and Waco were both on April 19th.

According to my 'This day in History' e-mail, the 16th has been relatively free of historic tragic events since an English army defeated a Scottish force under Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Ironically a bad day for kilt-wearing folk.
