I did errands, and I should be doing laundry, but I think a nap is going to come first.
Natter Area 51: The Truthiness Is in Here
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
And I love Macy Gray's new song Glad You're Here, which came out on the day the twins were born.
They have their own herald (I have no idea if that's the right word. The announcement fanfare thing) song!
Word of advice, msbelle, from my mom's own misadventures: don't start giggling and do not nick his ear. My dad never let her cut his hair again.
I'm glad the tantrum passed and the day has resumed.
Errands done. I think I'm just going to have to admit I need to use the internet for finding a lampshade. I realize most people would go there first, but I am strangely reticent about shopping online, partly because delivery is so difficult.
Next up is cleaning. I've picked up, but I want to hear a piece on the radio first, and the vacuum will drown that out. Oh, I can file paid bills! (I really need to do something about entertaining me.)
A fairly graphic article on what typically happens to victims of car accidents who aren't wearing seatbelts: [link]
The article and many of the comments address the whole "thrown clear" nonsense.
Sure, you hear people talking about wanting to be “thrown clear” in the event of an accident. If you want to simulate being “thrown clear,” go to the fifth floor of a building and jump out the window.
Let’s talk briefly about being thrown clear, because it happens more often than you’d think. Unrestrained driver: side impact. Vehicle spins. Driver goes out the window. In one case I recall, the driver was half-way out his window when the vehicle rolled over on top of him. That was the second-most grotesque scene I’ve ever been to. Another scene, the driver went out the window when it spun. The vehicle went into a snow bank and was drivable from the scene. The driver went into a river and drowned.
...
Sure, there are accidents where being held in place by a seatbelt puts you in place for an impalement while being thrown out of the vehicle turns out better all around, but still, that isn't the majority of the cases. They're more in the "my uncle smoked three packs a day for sixty years, and he died at age ninety when he was shot by a jealous husband" sort of story. Yeah, the guy's uncle didn't die of lung cancer. But that doesn't mean that smoking is good for you.
Flowbee!
Okay, I gotta go get the rest of the stuff from my car. $100 at Bed Bath and Beyond, $100 in groceries. Ow.
Seems doing nothing is even more important today--I managed to undo some of the great work the masseuse did, same day even. So once all the stuff is up from my car, eating, lying down, perhaps dying hair, lying down, but most importantly, muscle relaxants.
I text messaged my sister a teaser for dirty gossip, and three minutes later my mother called. What a freakout. But I checked the phone again--I had sent it to the right person. Why my mother was convinced I'd just called her is beside me.
She has a nasty almost-psychic trait I've grown to hate ever since, the morning after I lost my virginity, she called to ask how I was doing and if any of my friends had done anything special for me the day before.
Kat--know this may not be believable, but what time do you want to do brekkie tomorrow and where? I made sure I only have ONE THING to do all day tomorrow, and that's to see you. I can meet you at home or near the hospital or whatever.
I think I'm gonna have to start vacuuming once a week. OMG, the cathair! Spring...
I spent most of an hour out in the garden, raking up all the leaves that I should have taken care of last fall.... A couple of my columbines are coming up strong... in the middle of the lawn. Ah well.
Timelies all!
Back from MTT. I'm tired and my hair smells like wood smoke.(lots of camp fires) In a little bit the four of us meet G's dad and stepmom for Thai food.
Also, I have a ridiculous tape pileup mostly due to my folks being here. Why is everything airing this weekend?(I know, I know, my diamond shoes are too tight)
Had a great time at ChiKat's last night!
Chatted with my mom, who just got back from a week in Florida with my brother and his two younger kids (the oldest, Clayton, had a band thing during spring break so had to stay at home, and SIL had to get back to teaching on Tuesday, so her week off didn't coordinate with her kids, unfortunately). They all had a great time, and she really enjoyed the time she spent with the 11-y.o., who is at that age where he's starting to become less affectionate and communicative, but he actually put his arm around her waist while they were coming back from the pool on Thursday and told her what a great time he'd had with her that week!
Also, Clayton, who is a junior in high school and just starting to look at colleges, has decided he wants to come out here to Chicago for school!!! If he does (and I know how often you can change your mind in a year while deciding), that would be so terrific! I can be the Cool Aunt who comes to pick him up at the dorm and takes him out for dinner and a movie when he wants to get away from the roomate.
I got things off my procrastination list today! I got a pair of boots repaired, used a four-year-old Crate & Barrel gift certificate (cashier: "I didn't know we issued gift certificates anymore"), took care of a six-months-overdue personal appointment, and I might have time to make some chicken stock.
