'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Even at 2yo, you can tell who has an aptitude for engineering -- I could see it so clearly in my neice at that age. She managed to destroy (or at least thoroughly take apart) many many things that had survived unscathed the toddlerhood of her two older brothers.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Yeah, both of them are good at figuring out locks and such, but he's the one who really wants to build things and to take things apart and put them back together.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Happy Easter to those who celebrate!

I hope our local supermarket's open today, or else we're going to have a problem with dinner...

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

~ma to Kat, Noah, and Grace. I'm keeping you all in my thoughts!

Well, I'm finally awake and got my laundry started. I hung out with ChiKat last night, and it was so fun we didn't realize how late it was until the light bulb went on over my head and I blurted out, "2 to 6!! I can't leave my car on the street here from 2 to 6 in the morning, and it's after 3, isn't it?!?" So, I did the "Thanks and bye!" thing and ran out to my car--no ticket, thank you for the Easter present, Easter Bunny (bawk, bawk!!) (My favorite Easter-themed commercial ever.)

Anyway, ChiKat and I had a great time chatting and then we headed over to a Polish restaurant I saw recommended at my favorite local foodie website, located near Belmont and Central. But, when we got there, we found it closed up tight, even though the hours they had posted said that they should have been open. It wasn't until we were heading back to the car when it occurred to me that, hey, Polish owners = most likely Catholic = other things to do Easter weekend! It would have been nice if they had a sign in the window saying so, though.

Good thing that I had a back-up restaurant written on my little post-it note, so I asked her if she'd like to try Tunisian food instead. We headed over to the Carthage Cafe ("Hookah Lounge and Restaurant") and had some wonderful Mediterranean food. Appetizer was a pepper/tomato pate spread over fresh-baked pita bread, and dinner was lamb chops for ChiKat and Tunisian Ejja for me (a stew-like mixture of homemade sausage, peppers, tomato paste, and poached eggs with a lot of traditional spices and a strong spicy after-kick that was yummy served over French bread! Only problem was that they desperately needed more light in the restaurant--we could barely read the menus and couldn't see our food that well.

Afterwards, we went over to a French pastry bakery in Lincoln Square that ChiKat used to frequent regularly, and had pieces of raspberry cake (two different types--they had lots of raspberry desserts in their display case!) and coffee, and then headed back to her place for more chatting and cooing over her oh-so-handsome kitty Mickey, who was cracking us up with his cuteness.

Loads of fun was had!!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Easter used to mean hiding eggs from Emmett. Now it means we're going to see the Greeks. So we'll borrow Emmett from his mom today, go have an early Easter dinner with the MiL and then swing by to see the Greek cousins, two of whom Emmett is fond of.

Matilda has inherited her mother's fondness for baby toes, and conveniently Matilda comes equipped with them at the end of her own feet. She's been munching on them all week. If I could get her a basket of chocolate feet I would. When I was taking a bath with her the other day she spotted my big toe and her eyes went wide like a hunter spotting a sixteen point buck.

Our wings are not tired.

Baby toes!!

I made pretty eggs and baskets for the boys. They don't believe me anymore about the Easter bunny, but they have figured out that I won't give. In Laura's house the Easter bunny still chews the carrot left for him.

We adult types are drinking mimosas. Yummy.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Chocolate sounds good. I have no chocolate.

I'm off to the grocery store soon. Maybe they'll have some chocolate macaroons, or something.
