Spike's Bitches 35: We Got a History

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Have you gone over to diaperpin.com? Lots of reviews of both sellers and diapers.

No, but I will now! I keep meaning to pick your brain about the cloth diapering thing. When I was a baby, my mom used prefolds and pins and that was IT. It's all so much more complicated now!

It is! And as your baby grows and changes, the diaper that worked at one stage will suddenly fit funny the next.

What are you looking for in a diaper system?

Compassionately intolerant

P-C, I really like Fred Pete and Vortex's thinking here.

If she IS cool in any way and has similar feelings about the process, having a partner in crimelike could be the ticket to staving off the 'rent's anxieties.

Joining you in the not-really ready corner, and wondering why on Earth I put a profile on match.com (and _paid_ for it which would seem to equal commitment), I got my first viable response.

Not a handsome guy at all, so the photo didn't really help...but he writes charmingly (and for a living) and illustrated that he's actually read my entirely too long profile. So big bonus for him!

I'm hoping you find at least that much good news in your communication with this woman. And, not to put too fine a point on Fred Pete's thoughts but, you've got nothing to lose by being totally yourself at this point. (including the grumpiness over having to do it at all.)

Holds in poop + is washable, mostly. And "is more affordable than disposables," though the environmental impact is an issue too. (Which is why we're not going with a diaper service.)

I have a feeling the research/shopping phase is more fun than the actually-using-them phase, but right now I'm all Ooh, Research!

Trust my rage

It is!

See, I think cloth diapers look complicated at first, but once you have a few, they really aren't. I think Plei has tried more kinds than I have, but if she can't answer all your questions, let me know!

All is well that ends in pizza.

The Philadelphia ready-to-eat cheesecake filling Andi was talking about last night has three primary ingredients on the list. cream cheese spread, sugar and water. There are some preservatives (Xanthan gum mostly), and the cream cheese spread ingredients take up most of the list in parentheses.

Oddly enough, no eggs and no HFCS.

Also? too tempting for this diabetic. Argh.

Made my own with my stick blender and Splenda. Not bad, but I need to experiment.

I'd suggest getting a few different types, then. You can get a lot of use out of prefolds, especially in the early months (and the forums at Diaperpin have a lot of fold suggestions), but it'd probably be worth having a few pocket diapers for babysitters or leaving the house. I'd probably hold off on a mass pocket purchase until the rapid growth stops--we started buying pockets at about 8 months, and most of the ones we got her still fit. For one-size pockets, I've had good luck with the BumGenius. For one-size fitteds (that make GREAT overnight diapers), I'm still a fan of the Growing Greens hemp diapers.

That's the impression I get from the internets generally.

We're planning a Costco run in the next week or so for economy size cases of prefolds and baby wipes etc. And then to Babys'R'Us for some Snappis.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I've probably said this before, but I'm impressed with those of you choosing the washable diaper option. I know that I would likely throw out more than I would wash, if I tried to do that.

Probably a stupid question, but why does a diaper service create more of an environmental impact?

What brand of prefolds does Costco carry? Avoid Gerber, stick with diaper service quality prefolds.

Cloth wipes, by the way, are great. I don't like the Kissaluvs (sp?) diaper, but I *love* their wipe.

Snappis rule.
