Spike's Bitches 35: We Got a History

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I like watching military history shows like the one on WWI, and the occasional episode on famous battles like Waterloo. Even the episode on early guns (like, 16th-18th century guns) is fascinating to me, because the weapon technology dictates military tactics, and explains exactly why (to quote Bill Cosby) "[the British] have to wear red and march in a straight line."

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I like some of the shows I catch on it but American History is just kinda not my thing. Which horrifies and embarrasses me, but it's true. I'd rather just get the Cliffs Notes on that and read the novels about the solar system and Ancient Greece and how ecosystems intertwine.

This is a problem for me when playing Trivial Pursuit.

Pair up with me--I'll cover all the history stuff, including American!!

I've got my history books (about 10 shelf feet, which isn't much but I've been purging) organized in lots of subcategories, but my war books are chronological: American Revolution, Civil War, WWI, WWII (don't have any books solely on Vietnam or later wars, but Tuchman's March of Folly does cover the Americans in Vietnam in the last part of the book).

I'm currently giggling because I found an I, Claudius drinking game!!

For each "quaff count" below, quaff the wine like the characters do at their banquets -- a decent swig. No dainty little sips like you're afraid your wine might be poisoned or something.

1 quaff for:

Banishments in General
Executions in General
Suicide in General
Adultery in General
Orgies

2 quaffs for:

Murders & Assassinations in General
Poisonings in Particular
Incest
Omens and Sibyls

3 quaffs for:

Assassinations/Poisoning of Emperors (w/accompanying appropriate food if poisoned-- see below)
Banishment of Julia
Starvation of Livilla
Livia Becoming a Goddess
The Winner of Messalina and Sylla's Contest

Many quaffs (drain that goblet!) for:

That --uh-- thing Caligula does at the end of Episode 9 "Zeus, By Jove" (we don't want to give it away if you've never seen the series before.)
"Not my head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Eat a Fig for: Poisoning by Fig
Eat a Mushroom for: Poisoning by Mushroom
Optional:

Hum "Let's Do the Time Warp Again" at the first appearance on screen of Livilla and of Nero (Agrippinilla's son -- don't be thrown off by the many other characters who have Nero tacked onto their name somewhere) You deserve ten gold stars for knowing why.
Yell "Make it so" at Sejanus at some point.
Brandish Boiled Asparagus for: You'll know.

Excellent. You answer yellow. I can cover green (Sci and Nature), brown (Arts and Lit) and most blue (Geo). Entertainment is kinda a crap shoot for me. Am I missing any pie pieces?

My brother and I used to be a great team cause our knowledge interlocked. But now we don't talk really, much less play board games.

The status is NOT quo.

ChiKat, I've taught Bless Me, Ultima many times if you need anything for it.

Isn't orange sports, or is that entertainment?

I think I'm pulling an all-nighter so I can go for an early-morning swim at 6:00 am, and then come home to go to bed.

Orange! Yes, Sports.

We both sucked at that (no racing, or I would rule) so we just usually answered, "Babe Ruth." It was, occasionally, the right answer. Not a lot, but sometimes.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

We're are at the beach. Mom is trying very hard to overfeed us. I think Dave has said, ''no thank you'' at least half a dozen times already today.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I haven't looked outside yet today. Is it safe?
